Club info

The SCSSA is a non-profit club that promotes sportfishing of all kinds along the South Carolina coast. We also concentrate our charitable efforts towards Happy Days and Special Times as well as helping support the Trident Tournament.

Established in 1969, SCSSA is the oldest club, still in continuous operation, of its kind in SC. Although the club has undergone changes throughout the years, its original premise, that of giving anglers from all walks of life the opportunity to share their love of fishing enjoy the camaraderie and competitiveness that the club inspires, remains the same. SCSSA has always promoted fishing as a family sport, and encourages youth and female participation.

The SCSSA also encourages conservation, and provided the first private donation which originally funded the SCDNR Marine Gamefish tagging program. The SCSSA also has supported, and continues to support the Dolphin Tagging Study, run by Don Hammond.

The SCSSA was the first club to increase minimum size limits above federally mandated size limits for billfish in club events, then later became the first club to adopt total tag and release for billfish in club events. Presently, we do not require tagging of billfish.

We removed non-food gamefish from club events, such as amberjack, barracuda and Bonita. We were also offer a conservation award for the most tagging of Dolphin, Wahoo and Tuna, in order to aid fisheries management in acquiring needed information.

Our focus charity is Camp Happy Days and Special Times and we also support the Trident Fishing Tournament. The SCSSA is recognized by the TFT as an official weigh-in station for their tournament, and we encourage participation of our members in this year-long event. Additional contributions have been made to the Harry Hampton Memorial Wildlife Fund, and most recently to the South Carolina Memorial Reef Fund

The SCSSA is committed to being proactive in the sportfishing community, and we
appreciate your consideration in becoming a member of the club. Please feel free to contact any board member listed on our web site.

The SCSSA sponsors 4 tournaments a year, 3 open tourneys, and one for members only. We have a kick-off oyster roast and a year-end banquet; there are a lot great activities for everyone in your family.
