Hi guys,

I don't post much lately but felt the need to today. My thought for today is best friends. If you have the privledge of having someone you call your best friend, make sure you tell them today just how special they are to you.

My best friend and fishing buddy Ben Treadaway of Myrtle Beach died last night at the age of 34. He was strong and healthy, stayed fit and strong and collapsed and died on his bedroom floor from heart failure just after 9:00 pm. Our families are very close and spent the entire day together yesterday fishing and playing in Murrells Inlet, and finished the day with a bbq at my house. The last photo of Ben ever taken was on my cell phone at the Jetties holding a 30" spot tail with a big smile on his face.

A few of you guys knew him from camping and fishing together a couple years ago. Please keep his family in your prayers, as he leaves a wife, 7 year old son and a daughter who will be born in a few months.

Ben and I were planning to be at the WBFC meeting on Wednesday, but I'm sure I will not be there. Please raise a toast to my best friend and a fellow passionate fisherman as you gather.

And again - call your best friend today - make sure they know how important they are to you. Tomorrow they may be gone forever.

A greiving friend,

Eric Koppel

As I have put myself on CF.Com restrictions, I missed this post. So sorry to hear about this and our prayers are for his family. If the tournament happens I will probably not be able to fish it, but I will make a donation.

Eric,
Strainge that this is my first time posting anything....but I know exactly how you feel. I too lost my best friend in March. Forty years old. Still have a picture of him and a fish while on the Hector. All I can say is hang in there man, you'll have a smile on your face again some day soon as I did knowing that he'll know when you boat the next big one.

I may be able to make it.

Not to be difficult, but let's just decide on a date and go with it. I'm sure that those that can't make it will at least contribute towards the cause.

I would really like for both of you to be there if possible - what about Oct. 30th? Low early - high around 2:00 pm - can fish the entire incoming tide.

I need a vote from the members to decide on a date. I can plan both either way, simply reply to this thread with:

9th

or

23rd

DrinkinBudLite Posted - 09/09/2010 : 6:21:29 PM
October 9th would be a better date for fishing, but I'm not going to be here for that as I am going to be at the Rumble.

Kenner18 Posted - 09/09/2010 : 2:32:13 PM
Don't worry about my input for the date - you guys figure out what is best for you. If I get deployed between now and then, I will just fly back to be here.

Perfect.........

I am blown away that you guys would take this up. I have spent the entire week with Ben's wife and extended family and they are all so excited that you would honor him in this way. His family is definitely planning on being at the campground to meet and love on all who attend.

DBL - Lets talk next week to discuss whatever I can do to help.

IDEA:

Saturday, October 23rd, high tide @ Five Fathom entrance 0828hrs. Weigh in @ KOA Mt Pleasant @ 4pm, cookout to follow. $25 per person, ALL proceeds to go to the Treadaway family. NO PAYOUT, free food, and BYOB. ALL in memory and honor of Ben.

I'll need someone to help out with a tow-behind grill and everyone chip in on the food. This is a tourney in honor of Ben and any money collected will be given to the family.

How's that sound??

A candle will be lit (way up to the north of you) tonight where we our sending our thoughts and prayers to his family, best friend and all friends.

I no longer chase reports, I now go out and make them!
Kenner18 Posted - 09/08/2010 : 2:04:47 PM
I want to thank you all for your love and support, but most of all your prayers. Ben's wife and children will need all the prayers they can get in the coming months and years.

A tournament in his name sounds like a perfect way to honor him and I am thankful that you guys would take up the responsibility of putting that on. This is a perfect example of our fishing community at work! Camping at the KOA sounds great. If everone agrees on Mclellanville I will contact the KOA once the date is set and see if we can get a discount or even donated space to camp and gather after the tournament. I'm sure at that time of year they would not mind us using the kitchen/dining area for a small gathering.

You guys rock, and I am honored.

Eric

A buddy of mine just told me there was already going to be a tourney going on down there October 16 if that helps you out. Wouldn't mind fishing something like this if someone had room on a skinny water bote.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Kenner, my condolences to you, your family, and Ben's Family.

I'll take your advice and be calling some of my best friends tonight who are way too far away for my liking.

Sorry for your loss.

Man that's terrible, awfully hard on the wife. Lost a friend some years ago whose wife was carrying their first, never knew his dad. God bless them.

sure sorry to hear that Eric. Ben was an awesome guy, fun-loving, genuine, care free type person. Always looking with a smile and willing to help out. Good times fishing with him and a (**() good time on the camping excursion. He will be missed and I will gladly help out with a tourney in his honor.

Just found this and am so sorry for you and his family......I am glad to call ALL of you here my friend and hope each of you the best...
