The wife and kids want to go to the Keys for Spring break. This would be a budget trip, with kayaks rather than our CC. Every time we have ever gone down, we have rented a big place with another family but, this time it will just be the 4 of us. We aren't looking for luxury, just a clean place to use as our base of operations while we are down there. Any suggestions or info would be appreciated. I would prefer the middle to lower keys as it seems the water gets better the further south you go.

Thanks

Truly a great place to stay. The four of us (wife and two kids) went there over spring break. It is not really a fishing lodge like you would think. You can stay in anything ranging from a hotel, small modulars (think trailers), modern camping, to primitive camping. We stayed in a small modular. It has a bed room in back, two twin beds in front, kitchen, full bath... There is a pool and various nightly activities and movies. Not much in the way of beach swimming, but bahia honda is just up the road. Very friendly owners. We kept our kayaks at our site with no problem. The Key deer will come right up and beg like dogs for food.

The price was good, and we will definitely stay there next trip down.

vrbo
we stayed in duck key a few years back. waterfront with an inground pool and very short paddle to some great flats for yak fishing.
clean flow through canal for swimming and bank fishing.
just above marathon.
we paid 1100 for a week in the high season. it was a lot cheaper at other times.
