I've never been to Edisto and am coming in March. I'm camping at the state park and am planning on doing some kayak fishing with a spinning rod and a fly rod for redfish and speckled trout or anything that will bite. I was looking over the google map of the area and am wondering if Scott Creek behind the campground is a productive area and if so, could I put in the kayak from the campground on the marsh side? Also, what are some other good areas to check out for a first time visitor and where to put in at. Any help is greatly appreciated. I've searched through the forum and haven't really found this type of information for a beginner. I've never been saltwater fishing before and am stoked to give it a try and don't have the money to hire a guide on a teacher's budget! |

Call me when you get here and I'll give you some TroutTrick lures ("When saltwater trout are biting, they'll hit about anything. When they aren't, they'll hit a TroutTrick") and talk about the fishing.. Stop by your Walmart and get some 1/8th ounce Gamakatzu ball type jigheads. What Raddaddy said. Bob

For Scott Creek - put in a Live Oak Landing on Big Bay Creek and go left about 3/8-1/2 mile. Take a left at the sharp bend and that is Scott Creek. Goes by a bunch of docks and than back toward the campground side of the marsh. Scott Cr and Botany Bay on Ocello Cr would be the two best spots to try IMO. Get paper/map at Keiosk at Botany Bay and you will see where the throw in is located.

We kayaked Pine Island Early June. Edisto Sc. Husband said no poles, just enjoy the day. I love to fish. We floated into the largest school of trout I have ever seen, they were every where! I am heading back spring to see what I can do. I may need to leave the husband behind!

Also, they just opened up Botnay Bay which is inland a little further from the campground. Paddle boats and kayaks are welcome there and I think they put in a landing back there. Its really nice, you should check it out! |

When you all are talking about Scott Creek which side are you talking about the side off of Big Bay Creek or the side behind the campground??? |

Grab some DOA shrimp from the Edistonian and like Bob said just go fishin. Scott Creek is where I would fish if I were in a yak. You should run across trout and reds especially towards the back of the creek. |

I am sorry that I cannot remember his name right now, but go to the Piggly Wiggly and talk with the meat market man. He kayak fishes all the creeks and marshes around Edisto and can give you some great advice or go with you. As soon as my brain starts working again, I will remember his name.

Also check out google map of Big Bay Creek - put your yak in at Live Oak Landing, also part of the state park. Paddle to your right looking out from the ramp.

All the boat docks looked like some good structure on the satellite picture so I'd thought I'd check them out. |
