Posted - 03/10/2012 : 6:08:41 PM drove down to hollywood today to get look at boykin puppies. water was really really high all around the flats by the road all the way down. i wish i had a fly rod and some more time!
There is no greater fan of fly fishing than the mud minnow. |

Posted - 03/10/2012 : 09:57:49 AM I threw a spoon and a couple minnow patterns at them but no takers... well they might have but I couldn't get upwind enough for a decent cast.. The flat I was on floods at about a 5.2 but the closer you get to 6.0 the better... anything over 6.0 and you have about a 10 minute window before the water is too deep...

Snook! It was nice to meet you today. Im planning to head back there in the morning to search for some tails on the high tide. I'll throw a second kayak up on the roof and if I run into you maybe we can paddle the falling tide into the afternoon?
Crimson, I enjoyed meeting you as well. Thanks for the offer. Unfortunately, I have a previous engagement on Kiawah (non fishing)during Saturday's morning high tide, but may be a rain check?
Good luck! |

Hey Nikon, did you throw any thing at them?
I wandered around a flat this morning and saw 1 very bullish Spottail making large bow waves across the flat. Didn't get a chance to cast to him. Saw him later on just as the tide had turned and had a shot at it. Spooked it when i stripped the fly! :-( Looked like the fish was chasing minnows.
The water was rather scummy and I couldn't see any smaller spots around.
