Ed,
Bad luck for sure. But June is also great shooting, as you know. You guys would have been great. I appreciate you jumping in and convincing others to shoot the tournament. Hope to have you guys in June.

Bad luck for sure, some of us already have our boats up there after prefishing the last few weekends. But thats fishing! found some great spots with a little help, from you and S4G.

Don't know if we would be competitive or not, but we were comming!

If it got any better I couldn't stand it.

Looks like that tropical storm may be coming our way for the tournament. I'll make the final call on Wednesday, but it's looking like 10-12 ft seas right now during the tournament. If we cancel, we'll be rescheduling for the first part June, when grouper opens back up. Stay tuned.

There seems to be a problem with the fax machine. It's probably best to call or email your registration in at this point. Fax should be back up and running within the week.

Thanks,

This is a reminder that early registration is over on Thursday the 11th. If you wish to save the $20+ then please register before then. I see that we've gotten quite a few registrations today, so thanks for those. Hope to see everyone there.

Ladies and Gents,
We're only eight (8) weeks out from the tournament. We've had great response and it sounds like we're going to have a good turn-out. The prize table is looking better everyday, with gear from Zeagle, Sherwood, Armour, AB Biller, and various others. There's also a $500.00 cash prize and a $250.00 cash prize on the table. Sign-up now for the early entry-fee discount. Call 843-357-2007 for more information. You're also always welcome to email me.

As some of you may know, the viz and thermocline have been bad lately, but the Northeast wind we've had lately has been clearing up the water a little. I suspect that within the next 4-5 weeks, we'll have great viz and no thermocline again. The fish have been waaaay offshore lately as well; due to the cold-water upwelling...but with the clean water moving back in, we should have fantastic spearing here shortly. The tournament should be timed just right. Below are a few pics for those out-of-towners. Hope this motivates you to sign-up. Stay tuned to this forum for further updates.

Looking forward to having you Joey. I think the dive shop in Murrells is starting a sign-up sheet for those looking for boats and those with extra spots. Maybe Victor wants to start one as well, but you could check with either of them. Also, if you know any businesses in the community that might consider sponsoring the tournament, please send them to me or Sue at Murrells Inlet 2020. We need for this tournament to grow.

Thanks,

Stephen Goldfinch

Kent told me I needed to re-emphasize why we picked this date. Many divers only venture-out during the warmest months of the year. This is by-far, the best time of the year for diving and for spearfishing. The numbers and quality of fish should be at it's height. The viz and temperature should be perfect. We typically don't start wearing 5-7 mil suits until December, so everyone should still be comfortable in a 3 mil. We can only hope we don't get some crazy late season hurricane. Barring that, I hope everyone that dives will consider this tournament. We've worked hard putting it together. Please join us.

Yep. We have our final committee meeting for the rules/regs next week. They will be posted on this site and Murrells Inlet 2020 site, as well as many other diving/fishing sites. There will be categories for Hogs, Grouper, Snapper (magrove/cuberra) African Pompano/Cobia, Flounder/Sheephead/Spadefish and Lionfish. Lots of people already committed to shooting, so we should have a great turn-out. Prizes are starting to roll in from sponsors and money is on the table. We'll working on having a few chefs prepare the lionfish at the weigh-in. Hope to see everyone there.

Stay Tuned.

Hmmmm..... I may have some numbers.
Bug Catcher Posted - 05/30/2012 : 9:32:40 PM
spearfishing is far better in the fall! Iv'e seen 100' vis in the fall and all the big fish are in close to spawn. we will consider the tour. just not sure as all our good #s are south of chas. and we would have to drive our fish by car as the fuel cost for the boat would prohibit us running north for a weigh in! hope you lots of success

If it got any better I couldn't stand it.

You're welcome to dive wherever you'd like. There are inshore and offshore species on the menu, so everyone has an opportunity to compete for prizes. It also supports a great cause. More to come as the rules and regs are finalized.

Thanks for the interest.

is this a boat or shore dive at the jetties?

We're still diving in 3mms in November. Late October is great for fish and for viz. it also takes us out of the threat of hurricanes. Best of all worlds IMO. Call the Murrells Inlet 2020 office on the card above for further info. Rules and regs to be released soon.

Thanks,

Why in October? Why not over the summer when the weather is better/warmer?
