Posted - 04/11/2012 : 04:45:04 AM Hokie, Don't think it really matters, just want to be sure they see it, without adding too much flash. Dark colors are more visible to fish, esp. in murky water or on cloudy days, as silhouette is more visible while sinking (remember that anything above fish, in h20 column, is back-lit). Like lighter colors in clear water on bright days. Hope this helps. Gotta go fish.

Posted - 04/10/2012 : 10:11:45 PM Newman- why do you like fishing dark toads vs. light colored ones? I don't get to fish down your way much but have had much more luck with lighter colored flies on the flats in summer. I have read that darker is better for winter, haven't had the chance to test that theory yet

Posted - 04/10/2012 : 08:23:17 AM ScottyD, yup, they always sink hook up, and sink faster with less weight. Seem to hook fish better too. Was hoping they would slide thru grass with no weedgaurd, not so much...
Hokie, thanks, 99% of time a dark toad is on end of leader, eff made mistake in article, i use finnish racoon for tail, not artic fox.. Above were tied for fishing deep sandbars, with mega current, at high water..

Posted - 04/09/2012 : 11:19:38 PM Newman, those are some tasty lookin' flies. Saw your Redfish Toad in Eastern Flyfishing. That's a great bug too. Going to tie up some of those for my trip down to SC in July

Posted - 04/08/2012 : 7:30:33 PM Newman- im guessin by the look of the hook eye- thats a jig hook? is that for the sink rate? i think you told me, but my memory is fleeting

Posted - 03/31/2012 : 9:03:32 PM With MM on this one. They like shrimp year round, just like me... As soon as the crabs stop molting, the fish should start eating grass (or maybe young white) shrimp by the mouthfull..

fish always eat shrimp... period... Its more of a situational thing than a seasonal thing...
