My future wife and I are going to the keys at the end of May for the honeymoon. We plan on doing one offshore charter and one inshore charter. We talked about staying at Hawks Cay. Anyone stayed here before? Have stayed in Marathon in the floating rooms before but dont think the wifey would go for that.

Just wanted to get some thoughts on charters and places to stay. From personal experiences. Good or Bad

Thanks

We just got back from Islamorada. We rented a house from VRBO.com. Lots of good deals. We took our own boat so we did not do any charter fishing....................burned all our money on gas. We thought about renting a boat but the idea of having a boat right out in front of the house to use anytime you want all week, ruled out renting. We may save some extra $ for our next trip to go on an inshore charter. It is a wonderful place to visit with lots to do as long as it involves water. We did talk to some folks in a restaurant one night who were "really disappointed" in the beaches. No one told them that you do not go to the keys for the beaches.

I stayed at the Cheeca Lodge on Islamorada and possibly the finest in all of the Keys! In addition, you are just 1 block away from 20-30 Charter Captains and an awesome fleet of boats. A big win for both!

We did the same for our honeymoon, Key West in May. Fishd two full days with Capt. Damon Santelli 305-923-0700 on The Outcast -- http://www.fishkeywestflorida.com/ This was our second (and third) Key West outing with Damon, and I'm really itching to go back. We did Tarpon, Dolphin, Permit, Grouper, Yellowtail Snapper, and a couple huge sharks all within two days of non-stop fun. My brother in law has fished several other times with Damon, with great success. The only downside is he is usually well booked months in advance and has a massive repeat clientele (for good reason). Can't say enough good things about him!

if you make it to key west.park and ride the trolley bus once you get there.it's alot easier getting around that way.

I've been to Hawk's Cay twice for work conferences. The first time we stayed in the hotel rooms. The rooms were old and had the old hotel stank. This was probably 7-8 yrs ago. We went back a year later for the same purpose and stayed in the condo's. Waaaaaayyyyyyyyyy better! I had one to myself with a fenced back yard with hot tub. There was a canal right behind the condo as well so the views from the second floor were awesome.

Resort is great, marina, fishing, is all good. Lot's to do, relaxing and you don't have to leave. I actually recommend you not leave or be out after the street lights come on. Lots of poe-poe, had a customer get a dui the second year.

With that said, if you decide you want to hang in key west one day it ain't too far, maybe 30-40 mins if I remember correctly.

Hope that helps.
