I've gotten a lot of e-mails recently about rigging Z-Man baits, so I thought I'd do a quick write up and a short video.

http://youtu.be/NOJDfXau-CA

I use the trigger hooks. 3/0 for smaller baits and 4/0 for the bigger ones. For fishing PaddlerZ I really like the action on a 3/0 weighted trigger hook, it just take a little care rigging to get the most out of it.

Measure the bait against the hook to decide where to put the point through the body. Get it straight up the middle of the body, the shove the bait onto the front barb to keep it in place.

Use the o-ring to keep the body up against the hook point to make it weedless.

Go catch fish.

I fish a lot of Z-Man. For the 4" PaddlerZ, I used a 1/8 ounce 4/0 flutter book. Much better hook up ratio using a 4/0 hook verses a 3/0. I like the trigger hook, but kept getting stuck by the opposing barb when releasing fish. So I switched back to the old school flutter hook.

I've fished both Dave, so it's a personal preference.

Tommy good post. I am a big fan of z-man baits, but I have to say those trigger hooks are terrible. I have used the gamakatsu weighted worm hooks with a lot better hook-up ratio and the bait stays in position better so you don't have to fix it after each cast. Just my opinion.
