My favorite part of shopping in Lowes is standing in line behind 8 other people because only 1 register is open. I usually spend that time reading the sign that says, "We will open another register if we see more than 3 people in line". I guess they never "see" more than 3 people.

Never even got offered another job, I guess thats what you get after spending 10 to 12 years with a P.O.S. corporation. that has zero respect for ppl and there families!!! Sad story one guy has a baby on the way another had six kids. Luckley they both have found jobs. Just like seafood SHOP AND BUY LOCAL. HE#% WITH THE CORPORATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I deal with my local Ace Hardware store in Pawleys Island, a locally owned franchise, whenever possible. Nice folks with lots of knowledge. The local lumber yard, PI Lumber is actually lower priced than the box stores. Just did a screened in porch with Screen Tight (made in Georgetown, SC) and PI Lumber was about 10% less than Lowe's or HD.

Never have found a sales associate at HD or Lowes that knew what they were talking about anyway. I shop where I can find what I need. On large projects I'll deal with local because of the service but small stuff I go where I can get everything I need at a decent price.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

We were doing some mission work on some low income houses last week. My runner was a 70 year old female. I needed her to get some 2x10's and 2x6's for the front steps. She went to Lowe's and they told her that they would not load the lumber, that they no longer do that.

She went to Ken's. Not only did they load it, but told her how much they appreciated the business (and it was cheaper to boot).

You won't see me back at Lowe's for some time. Obviously business must be good.

They probably won't load lumber anymore because they don't want the liability should it come off in transit. You can thank lawyers for that also.

They won't load it because those part time people have no benefits. Also they get hurt or "their back goes out" and Lowes/HD has to pay.

If you want to blame someone for laying off knowledgable associates in favor of part time help, I'd start with the politicans. They're the ones making companies do cost benenfit analysis studies that tell them the profits are higher with the PT workers.

I haven't been in a lowes or HD for 5 years. By local hardware stores and lumber stores where they load your stuff.

wow - scary stuff, my experience has been the opposite with ceratin exceptions

around Columbia and Lexington I use 4 different Lowes stores and one HD, Lowes on Killian has 2 folks in plumbing that know their stuff, Lowes on Two Notch has a guy in flooring that used to be a contractor - taught me the basics for installing tile, all of them have at least one person in hardware that is helpful

HD in Harbison has the toll rental area - good people

however I have seen some folks that were less than talented

if you're around Prosperity and need anything, hit the Hamm's Ace Hardware, like an old country store, all the treated lumber is ground contact, they thread pipe and sell nails by the pound or box, when cold weather is coming they stock up on PVC for all the trailer folks and weekend lake dwellers that freeze pipes, they are good people
