I was down that way last July. Not really sure what you are looking for specifically. If you are looking for a place to go sun, be lazy, fish, have a few drinks and relax, I think you will enjoy yourself. I went once without a boat once with. With a boat is definitely better!

I've been going off and on for 50 yrs. It is a great spot for fishing and diving.
You can catch a variety from a small boat drifting the inlet around and under the bridge. Off shore for Cobia and Yellowtail etc. I would hire a guide my first day even if you are bringing a boat as it will make your entire trip more fun. You should have a ball. The bar at the marina is fun with many characters and a great place for info.
Have fun

Hunting, fishing, and poker are my sports. Work when necessary.

We always enjoy staying at Bud and Marys marina, they have 2 houseboats, I think they are 150 a night. Capt. Pablo (slam time charters) is the man.

I'm finally headed down last full week of July also. Have not been in too long. Taking my 9 YO, can't wait to show him all my old spots. We'll miss Lobster, but he's not yet ready for diving anyway. We'll snorkle as much as we fish probably. Staying at la Jolla, as usuall.
