Lots of bait and still catching slingers the first week of January. Anyone know if they are still there?

I went last Thursday and caught 1 at 23inches. They were deep around 20 feet. Lots of bait and a ton of birds flying. Saw another boat fishing with live bait haul in a few of em. Dont think they were big enough though.
