Most people fish with small chartreuse curly tail grubs here, but in other places (ie above the Mason-Dixon) they use shad darts, spoons, and in-line spinners. I have tried a few things but have never done any good with anything other than small grubs.

Haven't tried the spinners, but have been sucessful with darts, grubs & Jig, willow leaf spoons, and yellow buck tail flies (all kinds of color and material variations). Mac (the DNR dude) made some spoons last year that work pretty well. He calls them Woo spoons after the guy up north that makes all things shad.
