How an I find out what time of day they plan on turning the water on at the dam in the Tailrace canal?

Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.

I think you can call 800-925-2537. Thinking about going up there tomorrow. I am new to shad fishing so if anyone has any pointers please chime in. If anyone wants to go let me know. I would be willing to trade a salt trip for someone to show me the ropes on shad. Is there a landing still off 402?

They haven't turned the water off the past 4days. they are down to 1 hydro & having to run it all the time. Went this morning & didn't do squat.

Might wait then. Is it better when the water is running?

the water haa to be 55 degrees before they run up the river. need to watch how they fish for them and then go by the right tackle and go fishing. If you are not set up right you want catch any thing. It took me about three times. they had some teenagers fishing on a pontoon boat I guess they felt sorry for me and showed me how to catch them. thats the advantage of being old

I think in years passed, the fishing was better when they were running water. Now, you can catch some with it running, but it is much better when it is not. At least this has been my experience in the last 4-5 years. Others may chime in with a different opinion.......

Also, I know that on Jan. 30th of this year, I had my best shad day EVER, and the water was only around 50*.

No big secret.

They Like green and chartruse! With spinner without braided non braided when they are biting it dosn't matter.

Thing is its been cold the last couple of days.

Should turn on pretty good soon!

So much fun to catch on light tackle!

It doesn't matter what color or size (within reason) that you throw at them, when they are in there.

They have been biting pretty good the times that I have been (5 or 6) this year, but a whole lot better when the water was not running.

Like Droptine said, there is no secret at all.
If I can catch 'em pretty good, they must be easy!
Thing is, you just have to get off the couch and go fish. You never know for sure if they will kill the water or not. Either way, you will be out on the water and out of the house!!

Have fun, don't fall in and fish the right side with all the other boats!
