THE TAX SALE HAS BEEN CANCELLED. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST.

Delinquent Tax Sale on a 2005 50 foot Ocean Yachts Super Sports. The US Coast Guard Documentation number is 1202521 under vessel name Fine Grade III. The tax sale will to be held at 4045 Bridge View Drive North Charleston, SC 29405 in the County Council Chambers at 10:00 AM on February 29, 2012. The starting bid is $50,000 and it will go to the highest bidder. The tax sale is final and the highest bidder must pay with cash or certfied funds that day. Boat looks in great shape and is sold as is. It is located at Pierside Boatworks in North Charleston. If there are any question in regards to the boat sale please email or call 843-202-6581.

BY VIRTUE OF EXECUTIONS issued by the Treasurer of the County of Charleston, the Delinquent Tax Collector has levied upon and will sell personal property. The Delinquent Tax Collector is required by law to sell as much of the defaulting taxpayer's personal property as may be sufficient to satisfy the taxes, assessments, penalties and costs. The auction is being held at the County Council Chambers 4045 Bridgeview Drive North Charleston, SC 29405 beginning at 10 o'clock in the morning on Wednesday February 29, 2012. To avoid sale, all taxes, assessments, penalties, and costs must be received and processed by the delinquent tax collector prior to the sale of that property. Only cash or certified funds will be accepted for the payment of taxes. Personal property to be offered for sale will be advertised in the Charleston Post and Courier Friday February 17, 2012 and February 24, 2012 in the name of the defaulting taxpayer, defined by the South Carolina statutes as the owner of record on December 31 of the year proceeding the taxable year. Prospective bidders are required to show a valid driver's license or other acceptable identification. Property will be auctioned to the highest bidder and must be paid for with cash or certified funds at the time of the sale. A bill of sale will be issued in the name appearing on the bidder's driver's license or other acceptable identification. Since the county is not liable for the quality or quantity of the property sold, there will be no refunds of bid money. The property will be conveyed by bill of sale to the successful purchaser and purchaser assumes ownership at the time. There is no redemption period for personal property. The purchaser of property at a tax sale acquires it without warranty and buys at his/her own risk. The county is not liable for the quality or quantity of the property sold. For the bidder's own protection, it is recommended that professional advice be sought if there are any legal questions pertaining to a delinquent tax sale.

Property Description:
50' 2005 Ocean Yacht named Fine Grade III
United States Coast Guard Documentation Number 1202521

It's a (**() shame when someone gets behind on their taxes, the county feels that they have the right to seize your property and sell it to the highest bidder. Not much better than the mafia...

My guess is it's a slimy builder that bought it at the peak of the market in 06-07. He strung out his vendors and subs on a bunch of jobs that he was going to crush it on. The economy tanked, he bailed on all his obligations and F-ed a ton of good folks.

Atleast the county gets something out of him. The rest of us are still paying his bills. Hell, he'll probably be there buying it back at 10% on the dollar...

It takes a lot for the county to seize property and sell it for non-payment of taxes. They've probably been trying to collect for at least 3-4 years. The owner lives in MP, and the documentation was renewed in October. Wondering if it was seized for not paying other taxes or sumpin'...

Are you sure this isnt the site contractor from Bluffton with the boat Heavy Iron?

"He strung out his vendors and subs on a bunch of jobs that he was going to crush it on. The economy tanked, he bailed on all his obligations and F-ed a ton of good folks."

Thats exactly what they did.....

That's not true at all. I think that they can snatch it any time you are delinquent after 1 year and they got more aggressive with the thievery when the economy started to tank. I called the tax office once and they said that all they are required to do is put notice in the paper that your boat is for sale. He said that once the "gavel drops" that boat is no longer yours. If you want it back, you have to buy it back from the bidder. A bit different for a house or car. At least with a house, you have a year to pay your taxes after it is sold and can get your house back. Not true for boats.

Yeah, but the post does say "delinquent tax sale"... Again, I called the tax office about this a couple of years ago. It's really easy to lose a boat like this if you aren't paying attention... Just goes to show you that you really don't "own property" even after you pay the mortgage... You are just holding onto it for the state to wrestle it out of your fingers any time it wants!!!

I was told by the tax office that you own the boat free and clear when you buy it at the auction. The loan agreement is with the original owner.

That is why banks typically escrow taxes out with homes so they don't take that chance...

Im sure that the owner has bigger problems than losing his boat. If you know how the tax man works, he's likely already taken everything he can take before he starts selling your stuff. Hopefully he just loses his boat and has to drive an old kia for a while, and doesnt lose his house.

Again, that is NOT how it works... If you don't believe me, don't pay your boat taxes for a couple of years and TaxMan will be posting your boat here...

I hope this will answer some questions. The only thing wrong with the boat that I am aware of is the genset needs some work. The boat is sold as is and there is no warranty. It was brought to Pierside Boatworks on its own power. The last option the county has to protect its interest is seizing a vessel. "For the bidder's own protection, it is recommended that professional advice be sought if there are any legal questions pertaining to a delinquent tax sale."

Ha, you can buy the bought but before you do, I would contact a Maritime Attorney ... that's the first thing I want to do when purchasing something of this value

I think that he said that the mortgage company was trying to take the boat out of state before the county mafia could lay claim on "their interest"...

The mortgage company was going to take the boat out of state and we caught it before it escaped county waters. If we had not acted as we did the county would have lost $50,000.00. TaxMan,

So the county has first dibs on recouping "their" money first, instead of the mortgage company. Is that correct?

sounds that way..

sort of sad,the mortagage holder actually has something to lose, the county just pulls numbers out of their ass and say you owe...

you work all your life and never really own anything...
