I may have to back off on an earlier post.
I've always stated that you can start Cobia fishing when the dogwoods are in full bloom, Well I've passed dogwood (only one) on the way to work that is in partial bloom. Wonder if it knows something I don't?
It's about a month and a 1/2 off from a normal year.
Keeps this up and I'll plant my corn the 1st of march.

| You are right about an early spring! The water temp in upstate lakes never droped below 50. seems to be 2-3 weeks early most of the trees up here are starting to bud, shoould be shrimp in the creeks soon! |

Warmer water temps will help - but also need longer daylight hours.

If the big females wear some dogwood blossoms in their dorsals, maybe the males won't be far behind to get the show on early! Might even bring hakunamatata back to Beaufort from Charleston... Just sayin' |

We've always used the pecan trees as an indicator. When the leaves come out, it's time. I think it takes more than water temp to start a migration, as gator said it's also a function of the length of daylight hours

Cracker Larry is right - cause he agrees wit me - take that, you doubters!. Bet the farm - when pecan trees put leaves on - the cold crap is done and daylight hours are on on the upswing.

I've got a special cobia lure that I'm itching to try out. It resembles a magnolia blossom with a bunch of those yellow butterflies sitting on it.

I heard they are gonna go to chucktown and just bypass pr sound. So there is no need to go fishing here.

Dogwoods are the indicator if you can put up with some cool breeze, Pecan trees are when you can sit in shorts and enjoy beer on a warm day! No doubt our trout needed this warm winter. We'll probably still get a frost in April and ruin my hopes of an early garden.

My dogwoods are blooming, But I've never caught a cobia in the Broad in February. Maybe so, sure not saying it's impossible I might go have a look one day this week and give the redfish a break.

I've seen some Bradford pears and plum trees, but I haven't seen the first dogwood blooming.
I do agree with you that cobia will be here when the pecans put on leaves as they are the last to do so. But they are here before that.

I believe that dogwoods blooming matches up with turkeys gobbling while magnolias blooming matches up with cobia..

I'm inland a ways, got a few dogwoods in my yard. They have buds, but no blooms.

I'm going to do just that, as soon as this wind quits blowing. Broad River is not where I want to be today
