Get some shrimp and silver dollar to quarter size crabs on a small sharp hook and a small split shot and fish the flats on the atlantic side for bones and permit. For alittle more adventure float the larger crabs in the passes on fast moving water for tarpon just make sure to have a float on your anchor line and a way to get get unhooked from the anchor line real quick.

How do you rig the larger crabs for tarpon? My son would die if he could hook up with one.

I use a 6/0-7/0 offset circle hook 10/0 - 13/0 if crabs are big. take the claws off, take legs off side to be hooked. Between the last back leg and the next slide the hook in that space and then up thru top off shell be careful not to crack shell or go to deep into body. can also be used under a float drifting with current.

Be careful in passes and around bridges with son based on his experience as they can get hairy. Sometimes better to break em off depending on where they are towing you.

Can also fish gulf side in smaller passes and mangroves for smaller tarpon which are just as much fun.
