Can anyone give me advice on someone who would give me a good price to come to my house in Summerville to repair a boat trailer wheel? Saw some grease on inside of wheel in October and took to one of our local boat dealers to check and repair so I would not have any problems. They said they checked wheel, repacked bearings and charged me for it. On the way home from fishing Friday, and almost home thank God after 45 minute ride, I heard a thumping and pulled over just knowing I had a flat tire on trailer. To my dismay entire wheel wobbling and about to fall off trailer. Only a mile from the house, went 5 miles an hour and made it home but know I cannot take it anywhere else and someone would have to repair it here. Would appreciate any advice.

Was it the same wheel that was fixed? If so I'd call the shop that did the work.

Carolina Coot, believe me, that's the first thing i'm going to do and if they won't help me they won't see me or my 2 boats again.

Now a word of advice to all who has unlimited trailer assist with Boat US like I do. I took a big chance trying to get it home that last mile. Big mistake. They told me if I would have left it on road and called they would have covered everything 100% but since I made it home they will not even give me the $50 that a regular WestMarine gold membership covers. If you ever have any problems leave it on the road and call. Do not try to make it home.

So the bearings burned up? Easy fix so long as the spindle isn't gouged to bad. You can buy the whole hub and put it on for less than $70. And I sure wouldn't repack old bearings, if you had a bad seal they should have pulled the whole hub, cleaned it, thrown the old bearings in the trash because if the seal was gone they had dirt or salt or both in them, and rebuilt the whole assembly with new parts.

Any local boating store, dealership should have galvanized hubs in stock or can get them quickly. Bought several the past few months for customers and my own trailer. Last one I bought from Seel's in West Ashley for $45-50, prepacked. 5 lug 1 1/16" straight spindle. Nothing to replacing them just need a jack and a few hand tools unless the bearings have seized onto spindle.

Good routine maintenance for anyone that pulls a trailer is to buy a jack or use the one from your truck and jack up one side at a time and check the wheel for movement, because if you find it loose you can tighten your wheel bearing or take it somewhere before it get s worse.
