I've noticed recently that Publix is busier than any other grocery I go in, especially on the weekend. The reason is pretty simple. They understand customer service and the fact that people really do not enjoy standing in long lines when it is time to check out. The other day my wife received a phone call from the pharmacist letting her know they did not have the prescription my sons Dr. Had called in to them. The pharmacist had called all of the local stores to get it sent over, but they were all out. The pharmacist then called the CVS in their parking lot, found out they had what we needed and sent the prescription to them. She called to let my wife know CVS would have it ready for her at 4:00pm. Things like this and the fact that they do not routinely run out of the sales items each week keep me coming back and apparently many others.

Plus their stores are clean, well lit, and truly a pleasant place to shop.

Publix appears to have the adopted the Chic-fil-a customer service model - be polite and engaging.

I took my son to his pediatrician yesterday and he was diagnosed with strep throat - the doctor recommended getting the prescription filled at Publix because.....they offer some antibiotics for free. Free is good.

So I went in and gave my clerk my prescription and walked over to the deli counter and got a cuban sammich. Then I went to the bakery and told the girls behind the counter I was wanted a cookies for my sick son (kids get a free cookie at Publix). The girl gave me 2.

I picked up my prescription and paid for my sammich at the pharmacy counter and as I was walking out the door, a girl said "I hope your son feels better!" Whaaaaat? Who knew besides the pharmacist??? (I had momentarily forgotten about the cookie counter girl) I laughed and asked...how'd you know he was sick??? She laughed even bigger and said.....I just gave you some cookies!

Tickled me. She could have ignored me as I walked past the cash registers toward the door....she didn't. I thought it was nice.

Oh yeah....some antibiotics at Publix are free.

Some bp meds are free there now also, and I think there's a diabetic medicine too.. I always tell my patients this..money saved is money saved.....no questions about insurance, income...nothing..hand it to them...get your medication. Go online to see the complete list of what's offered.
Sorry if this is spam......just trying to pass on some good deals...

Oh yeah...btw...cold chicken in deli from the same day is usually less than hot..and in the boat it's going to be cold anyway...look where the tater salad and stuff is....

Generally, yes. But if you watch their ads they run hot deals and usually on name brand items. Delmonte veggies BOGO, Kraft cheese, etc. And at X-mas, their standing rib roast deal is the best in town and they only use select grade meats.

They definitely follow a different business model than most of their competitors. Keeping departments open later, extra cashiers and baggers for customer service, costs money. They realize people will pay an extra nickle here and there for it. And to be honest, they should.

True, on regular prices items. If you shop around, you can save some money running from one place to the next.

Where I save money is by stocking up when they do Buy One, get One Free deals.

I also like the meat dept. in Publix better than most of the BiLO's, Food Lion's, or Pigs that I've been in. They periodically rotate sale prices around, so when they drop boneless skinless chicken breast to $2.99/lb, or sirloin to $3.99 or $4.99/lb, for example, I buy extras and throw'em in the freezer.

About 12 years ago, one of the local TV stations did an "expose" on grocery stores in the area and who had expired meats, canned goods, etc... on their shelves. Publix was the only store in the area that didn't have a single violation even when they went back a month or so later to see if the stores had changed their ways.

It's a real class act.

My wife works at the Publix on Daniel Island and that is a clean and great store. If you like the subs you should try the premade salads.

Publix is the bomb. It is the only store I know that you can eat something bought there, take the receipt back and say it was no good and get your money back. They are all about customer service. And, while some of their prices are a little higher, they have great B1G1 sales. Also the clientele is usually a notch above other stores (except when I am shopping).

We've got a Publix on one side of the road and a Food Lion on the other. Used to shop at the ghetto kitty until Publix opened, wow...what a huge difference. Wide aisles, bright lighting and POLITE people. I expected the prices to be a little higher and actually don't mind paying a little more for the difference in atmosphere but we took an old receipt and after comparing, Publix was actually a little cheaper. Especially on the dog food we buy.

I give my vote for the Publix subs. My Dad and I get either the phili cheese steaks or the Italian hoagies. The people at the counter actually remember how my Dad likes his fixed (he always likes the tips of his rolls cut off). It's little things that make you feel like a valued customer.

i used to bag groceries for them when i was in high school... they are still my preferred grocer. you don't have a stupid membership card you have to carry. and a little known fact... anything that is listed "buy one get one free" or "10 for $10" etc. you can just buy one of the items and get the sale price automatically. no need to buy more than you need for the discount.

i only go to food lion if its an absolute emergency... every time i walk out of there i swear to myself that i'm never going back... you ALWAYS stand in line forever. (and the place is just plain nasty on top of it)

The Publix brand chicken, beef and pork are no hormone/ no antibiotic. All the other groceries except Earth fair are IBP/ EXEL label meets. That is important to me.

Publix has the best deli meat-Boar's Head-bar none. Love the BH Ultimate sub...
That said, the one close to my house always has long lines and not enough cashiers...I was there yesterday, and they only had 3 lanes open with 6+ customers waiting in each line. Also, they used to have fresh-not frozen-yellowfin tuna, but now only sell previously frozen. They are probably 20% higher than the local discount grocery store(Bi-Lo)across the street on name-brand stuff. The employees are always courteous and friendly...the same is also true for the discount guys across the street. The local discount grocery offers a deal where they partnered with a large local convenience store chain and gives you a 5-cent discount per gallon on gas for every $50 you spend. That adds up...and I am all for saving on fuel costs.
Both grocery stores keep their establishments clean and uncluttered, and both offer a good organic selection. All things being equal for the most part, I choose to shop where less buys me more.
