Fished the Ashley for the outgoing yesterday with Ralph Phillips. Water was 64F and clear to 6" max Had a great afternoon swapping stories and fishing. We knew we would have to present a bait right in front of the face of a fish to get a strike so it was cast, cast, cast.

I used a scented Z-man 4" paddler in redbone color and hooked this beauty of a striper. It went 25.5" and 7.75 lbs on the Boga. Fought like a 35" red. My personal best.

Caught on a bait caster setup with a Ralph Phillips Trout Special prototype rod. 10 lb green power pro. 1/4 oz jig head.

Get off the couch and go fishing!

Nice fish Dave! Was he wearing a tag?

Awesome! I have not yet been able to catch the elusive salt water striper here around Edisto. I wish DNR would do some sample restocking in the South Edisto to see if the numbers coud be brought back to where they were many years ago.

Tommy, no tag, unfortunately... Maybe not a stocker(?)

RAD - I would think they could be found way up the S. Edisto or Combahee where it gets brackish? I know DNR has done lots of stocking in all the major rivers in Charleston, and its really starting to pay dividends. I've probably caught a dozen since last summer when I began targeting them a little. Very fun to catch! From my little bit of experience, they will hit the exact same lures as a redfish, and in similar spots.

Mighty fine camera work if I do say so myself. Nice job with the baitcaster neighbor.

Nice! I've tried 3 times for them there w/ no luck, although I did catch a couple nice reds by "accident". That fish is a stud compared to the pics of the others I've seen. I'm a bit jealous & would love to see them make a come back too

It would be amazing if striper were able to make a comeback like the redfish have. It would be an AWESOME fishery ;)

Probably because you caught them on some kind of homemade redneck Alabama rig! What, you couldn't hold the other 4?
