That is a big fat fatty. Of the ones I catch, the biggest are around that size. I know some people keep them for pets and they can live many years. Wikipedia didn't say how big they get but the mummichog was the first fish in space.

I'm surprised this one made it through the hole in the minnow trap.

i got one from haddrels that looked like a (**() stockpond catfish fingerling. He was making my rod tip bounce too much and making me think I had a phantom flounder on for about 30 min before i got mad, reeled in, and let him go

A few of my holes I use a cast net because the mudders are too big to fit through the hole. Biggest I've seen was about 4.5 inches. The big ones (spawners)are plentiful from now until into May

Hope you have a small knife to clean that one. Bigger the bait bigger the catch

And they have a funny Latin name: Fundulus heteroclitus

Because of living in ephemeral waters, the eggs of most killifish can survive periods of partial dehydration. Like seeds, the eggs can be sent by mail without water.

I've caught quite a few that size in the cast net. The bigger ones will not fit through the hole in a trap. My go-to mudder spot produces about 2 dozen per cast. I usually only keep 2 dozen at a time, which are all released after the weekend if they are not used. I've even tossed a few breeders in the pond behind my house. They seem to survive quite well in the fresh water. I didn't ever see any floating after I put them in the pond.
