HB & I hit the water on the Port Royal side around 8:45 or 9 yesterday...about an hour late as we would soon find out. I SWEAR we did not dress alike on purpose!
First drop had fish schooling on the last of the outgoing. I hooked up a 28 first on a Gulp! Sardine jerk, then HB caught a 24 on a fly and I then caught a 24 on a muddie on the bottom. As soon as the tide went slack, the fish went deep...and the bite died. We found them once more right under the boat, but no takers.
With the tide starting in, we moved up to another drop and saw a friend who had a school cornered, but no takers. We moved on to another drop and saw nothing, then to another where we had to wait the tide out to flood some flats and points. We caught one slot and had two bites, then went to look some more. After two more drops, we headed back to our starting drop and caught two more in the grass on mid to late incoming. One was 26 or 27 and the other 20+ and came on mud minnows under Cajun corks.
Although a slow day, talking to others who fished yesterday and today, I think we did well for this funny fishing season. Whoever's catching and releasing these fish and teaching them not to bite had better be wary.
