We all do stupid stuff on the ramp from time to time, but there is noting like the first really nice day of spring to bring out the dumbdumbs by the score. Dead batteries, bilges full of water, one more bag of ice before you back in, back down one lane, boat in the next lane, wait wait make sure the chairs open before you back the boat off...all of that between the time I docked the boat and backed the trailer in...almost could not back up I was laughing so hard...funny stuff.

Your "pontoon people" don't have to tend with strong current. That really adds an extra laugh factor until you feel bad and have to help out. Even a seasoned pontoonier can get schooled in a swift current.

| When I used to do service work in Mt Pleasant, I would hang out on Remleys Point Landing on Fridays. Man, that was some entertainment. New or inexperienced overpaid boat owners that did not have a clue. You just couldn't make up some of the stuff they did. |

I sat at Remelys one dad a few years ago, waiting on a place to tie up so I could back the trailer in...8 kids in a bowrider were sitting tied up right at the ramp and no one could use the ramp because they were in the way. I asked them what they were doing and pointed out they were causing a small mess...they responded the way you think they did. Anyway, a few minutes later a pizza delivery driver showed up and gave them two pizzas and they left. assholes...

interesting.
i was in wando h.s. a few weeks back at the front desk. don't sidetrack me, it's not important why i was there.
pizza delivery guy comes to office with ARMload of pies. tells desk person he's there to deliver em to a student in class. desk person tells him he will not deliver those pies today, at lunch, tomorrow, or ever to a student in class.
delivery guy made a pffft sound and left.
it was a proud moment.
i'm guessing some student watched Fast Times At Ridgemont High and had a bold idea. |

=/ glad I was in the boonies at bohicket saturday! Only graced a couple folks with my shenanigans.. first trip in the boat since I got it back from the shop.. had a guide there in a Hells Bay skiff documenting with his little iphone I think, ask him for photos . I can only imagine yalls version of this if I had been at wapoo:
Launched saturday, buddy hit the brakes hard and the winch strap broke and i started floating off, wouldnt you know that the motor wouldnt crank (flooded trying to crank it under pressure?)
Got help from a lady who caught the rope and pulled the boat to the dock. Tried to crank, then the engine then had an alarm. We decided to walk the boat around the to the non-launching side of the dock to clear the way.
Called Chris V who over the phone correctly diagnosed that it was just a bad oil sensor+ we were clear to go, (I must say that was a very impressive phone call) cranked it up and ran it around a bit and couldnt get it up over 4k rpm so we puttered around at cruise and fished a bit.
Brought the boat back and started to get it on the trailer and then one of the trailer bunks "rolled" (it was not tight enough and rotated pitch about 45 degrees) and the other trailer bunk came loose in the back, apparently the bolt holding it down had fallen/rusted out.
Pulled the boat back off and got out to check the trailer. I thought I had someone holding the back of the boat but they had already let go and the back end went swinging out. Reached out to grab the boat, got out too far and was kinda hung in the middle there, had to to either hop in or drop in the water.
FYI- fat people dont hop well, especially horizontally into an unsecured boat on the water. This is the pic I want to see from that guide the most
Got my leg bloodied by the bimini top rail coming over the gunnel. Secured the boat, then decided to get out and walk the boat onto the trailer to avoid damaging the boat since the bunks were getting squirrelly. Buddy got out of the truck, walked on the trailer and about busted his butt. I got out and got the boat walked up to the trailer somehow without dying.
Couldn't winch the boat up on the trailer too hard with a tied-on strap so we got it hooked up and winched gently while we backed the trailer just about all the way down in the water. Got it on + up and made SURE the straps on the back were good + tight to hold that puppy down to my broke-@$$ trailer for the ride home.
Cant wait to go again!! I will be launching closer to home so I can be near my tools also probably on a weekday to avoid further shaming. |

mhebbard...OK, you win. I have an extra winch strap if you want it, was going to put it on craigs list, but after reading that I will give it to you. Heavy duty with hook.

I agree. Something this good is worth posting pics, or better still, video.
