I have owned two boats , the first one used and the gas gauge was never really accurate and stuck all the time. I recently purchased a new boat Carolina Skiff 198 DL and the gas gauge seems not reliable on it either. It sometimes sticks and I am wondering if perhaps all boats have this issue or am I just lucky. I know boats rock a lot and its probably a main cause of the inaccuracies. But i know my ford F150 has a way to average out the sloshing of fuel to give you a pretty good estimate of whats in the tank. Seems they could do that for boats too.

My question though is , Are all boats like this?

No don't think so. I had one with an in hull fuel tank & it always seemed correct based on the gallons I purchased at the pump. Of course that is when it was sitting still, when on way or moving around the needle did vary.
