Since we did not have a real winter, I guess it should be no surprise that the reds are skattering rather early. The schools I have been on lately seem to have lockjaw unless I pitch them a mud minnow. Structure fishing has cooled off also..at least for me. Still getting plenty of bites, but mostly smaller (slot) fish versus the pigs I was getting until last week.

Since around Christmas we have landed at least 1 fish over 30 inches on almost every trip. Most of the other guides I know have been doing the same or better. This week most fish were 20 to 28 inches, still not bad, but nothing like a 30 to 36 inch fish signing their song.

Blue crab and mullet (sometiimes topped with a mud minnow) have been my best baits...as usual.

Menhaden may be in some places, but not where I am. Saw some singles on Tuesday, but didn't throw on them...

Yeah, that is an understatement...we had at least 8 or 10 pickup, pull the drag and blow it out yesterday.
