heard a couple gobbling on roost at daybreak, all was silent after that. called a few times with no responses later in the morning. moved to another field around 9:00 and spotted a gobbler in the middle of the field. made a few calls but he ignored me. saw that he was moving to other side of field so i slipped through the woods to try to cut him off. i crawled up to the field edge and laid flat behind some brush as he strutted and gobbled for about an hour. finally he slowly made his way towards me. popped him at 10:00am at about 40yds and he went right down. beard was a little messed up but he had some nice 1 1/4" spurs and a beautiful fan.
