What are the expert opinions for fishing this tide? I can't think of too many flats where fish would tail on this tide (maybe I'm wrong).

My question is this:

If I was after reds and trout with a morning 5.3 tide (7 am ish), Am I wasting time looking for fish in the grass, or is that tide perfect for keeping them just on the grass line?

Any input would be appreciated.

Depends on the wind... If you get a west wind, stay out in the deep grass lookin' for floaters... Get an east wind and that water should come on up and get the flat wet..

Also depends on what waterway your fishing... wando tides are alot different than ICW tides..

Just as Mad Mike is alluding, that is a loaded qustion with dozens of variables. In my water (Edisto area), I would plan on getting out at daylight and chunk topwaters and popping cork/DOA mainly for trout on the big water shell banks. If it's a true 5.3, the water won't be high enough to put the reds on the "short" grass flats, but they will be in the grass- the thick tall grass which makes them hard to target without seeing them first. After the water started to fall about 1-2 feet, I then would shift to redfishing, as many fish would have pulled out of the thick, tall grass by then, positioning them on top of live shell on the outside grass edge; especally around small creek mouths. Again, this is in my areas, and a heavy wind would change the plan depending on direction.
