Well pots are in the water waiting for the peelers to show up... peelers...is not referring to people burning their tires as they take off;;;;or what you do to shrimp or 'nanners //peelers= shedding crabs for folks who dont know .

Left my house at 0430...yes...thats a.m. for you sleepy heads..lol...stopped by hardees on the way to Mcclellanville for abisuit for mom and dad..also a habit of when I go...and although daddy always says..."you shouldnt have" he always has a cup of coffee ready for when I roll in...just in case...

Momma gives us a hug and tells us to take care and we are off on another adventure! heres a few pics ...

while parking the truck/trailer this lab comes up and jumps in the truck..lol...dont know if he was looking for a ride home or could smell the biscuit daddy brought along

ok...didnt take long to figure out the answer to this one..haha..nose in the bag!

Always my favorite part of the day ! and while some like the "snap crackle pop" of their cereal and the news on tv......I like to hear the "snap crackle pop" of the marsh..and let the goodness of being where I am fill my soul.

picture perfect day....( and see the crab pots on the water)

brrrr is right...I had on shorts and it was just a weeeeee bit nipy on the ride out! come onnnnn 81 degrees !!!

got me some new coveralls!!

haha...maybe I shouldnt have cut them off for a few more weeks!

lol...daddy just looks at me and laughs...he gave up on trying to make me behave years ago wonder where I learned it from?

time to rock and roll!!! (I accidently hit the "record" button on camera by accident so said what the heck! daddys loving the new motor! we only burned about 3 gallons gas running his pots!...and very quiet...now he has to hear me

http://youtu.be/D9ITyfOzNn0

pulling pots...and looking for jimmies to use for bait..lots of little ones...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sd6uigq-Z_w

"X" marks the spot...or closes the escape hatch....soo..thats what you do with those old crab baskets..leave it to daddy to improvise

Daddy calls it crab blanket...I call it salt water collards

BOX + Oysters...= "box oysters"??? lol

Saw this on the floor and said.."hey...what the heck is that"??..."rare sea critter" daddy says....then he laughed when I picked it up and said "it was that expandable foam he filled is catch stick with! dang him!! I fall for it everytime!

"sponge crab square pants?"

ok...this is a peeler....see the pink tinge around the "flap"...for some reason they call these "rank"crabs.. sometimes too....not even going to try to figure that one out

another nuisance...i call it "witchs hair"..it'll sure bury a trap!

love the colors on him!..he begged from us all day

...and it wasnt the other one looking for a free meal!

someone stuck their old shrimp poles out in one of the creeks...could see if it was to mark oyster banks....but wouldnt you get in trouble for this with the tags still on them?,,and they are not on a shell or mud hump

flouder in the pot!..but too small! I had just said that I couldnt believe we hadnt gotten one yet...next pot..there was one...daddy said.."next time say" I cant believe we havent caught a 20" one!!lol

..some people arent very considerate...these pots..hundreds...are now dumped right on top of everyones making it hard to even work your own...imagine daddy will lose a few because of this...these are from a out of town boat....

I got to be captain some today

The REAL Captain

more out of towners...spread em out boys...leave some room to get through...big tides going to tie 'em up!

spring comes to the village..always reminds me of EASTER

Uncle Genes lighthouse..

and a reminder that things are not always "cheaper in the country"!!

Thanks daddy for another great day on the water!

note to self..next time put camera card in new camera!

Thanks for sharing once again , Penny. The out of towners always crowded the locals ? I used to hate that, they would bring in 300 + traps and spread all over the place. When they raped your area then they would leave.

WOW that gas is high , I saw one today for $ #.72 but most were still $3,65. Still to high !

Went to see Dr at Va near Trident, while waiting I burn myself with their hot coffee. Couldnt happen a better place than the Dr. office.

EASY......I didn't take that dog home with me...but he sure was stalking me with that biscuit in my bag!!

Stono......they said they didn't work on stuff like that...but did give daddy a couple parts to try to fix it with...he was able to piece two together and it works...but he will have to get a new one soon I'm sure.....
There is no size limit on the peelers...that's one reason they block the escape hatches. Something else people don't realize is that the peelers we speak of are not the ones that have shredded and you eat...they are the ones in the process of shedding...the soft ones we catch go in our stomachs;)

Apob...hope you are ok.
The crabbers who come down do just that. I know it's people trying to make a living...but the crabs usually shed and it kinda moves down the coast..when we hear they are showing up in ga. ...we get ready..when the people further north hear we are getting them they come dump..then go to their own grounds...which our guys don't go to. Last couple years the locals were robbed blind....DNR. Does a great job trying to put a stop to it...but can't be everywhere...daddy and others also lost a few pots in the process. In fact...we found two ropes with buoys that had clearly been cut off at the trap meaning pot was taken when we went Monday...now that ticks me off! Bad enough to steal a mans catch...but to steal his equipment too.....that's bad.

Glad ya ll liked the pics....

I know Sharkin......people don't realize a rigged out pot is about 40-50 bucks I figure...
You sava a little if you build your own....but still have time and labor in those too.
Thanks for the offer. I just called beaufort marine yesterday to get a few more things for him to finish up his last 8 pots....needed wire for bait gunnels and doors...hopefully they ll be dropped at Carolina seafood Friday for him. Nice folks at Beaufort marine. Will let you know if I ever need something picked up....thanks again. Hey....did your friend give up crabbing or still working it? Tell the lovely Hannah we said hello!

Fishingsteven...thanks so much....I hate a thief...and they say that what goes around comes around...but seems like the good folks get hurt and it takes a looooong time coming back to the bad folks. There was a day when people honored and respected each other..and would never try to hurt a man trying to make a living...now sadly it's not so much that way

Sharkin...I got your message and will call bmarine first thing in the morning to make sure they are making a trip Friday to the village...if not may take you up on your offer....I ordered a roll of wire and clips last week but forgot the bait pocket stuff....will call you by 930. Thanks...penn

A lot of pots get cut by stupid careless people. In my favorite trout creek the crabber insists on putting the pots right in the Trout trolling lane. One time I explained why He should move the traps about 10 feet over and He told me to @##@# off.Next day I arrived at the creek and all his pots were up on dry land.Seems 2 guys got pissed and moved them.A few days later the pots were moved over and no problems trolling or working the creek. We need to learn to share the water.Just because you have pots does not mean you can block creeks. In My creek there is no way to move on half tide.If you put a pot out it will be right in the way of getting in and out of my creek.DNR gave my neighbor a ticket because he moved a pot so he could get his big boat out.Crabber blocked the whole (**() creek.

Sure but when i pass i leave nothing behind to block the creek.Fresh pots out attract bait fish.I like to fish a creek where pots have just been dropped.

They leave the pots out and they get in your way but you like them there because they attract fish??? Dont agree with and wouldnt block a small creek but open water is open water.
