i usually just toss a carolina rig with 2-4oz pyramid weights depending on what i need to stay put on the bottom. i use about a 2 foot leader with a circle hook appropriate to what im after. shrimp or squid gets whiting, but ill also throw a steel leader with cut mullet for sharks and bigger fish too.

Thanks, hope to catch a few big sharks, but not scare the people on the beach... May wait until dusk for that

Why wait? Nothing better than watching a bunch of people freak out after they realize you are going to release that shark! You normally end up with a good bit of room to fish after that.

[/quote Hahaha I've done that, your exactly right. Landed a 5ft sand shark and got a 1/2 mile berth on each side. I like your thinking!
