Anyone here ever charter a boat out there? Anyone have any points of contact. I'm going to be there in late May, and might have an extra day to do something fun while on business. For those who've done it what are the major differences in W coast offshore and SC offshore (other than the Atlantic vs Pacific )?

Are you trying to charter a sportfisher type boat or maybe go out on an all day trip on a open party trip on a head boat type boat? I see you said charter but wanted to make sure. Main difference is you'll most likely be fishing live bait. The two main landings in San Diego are in Point Loma. Fishermans Landing and Point Loma Sportfishing. Used to live in southern Cal the first half of my life.

I'd like to have a charter boat if it's a doable price. I'm not a head boat fan at all, but if it's the only option that we'd look at that...maybe. Yeah I guess I'm an offshore snob , but when you're paying you pay for what you want or don't go. It's a heck of a lot cheaper than owning something I'd only get to use a couple of days out of the year.

Most of the boats out of San Diego are kind of an open party basis. Multi day boats especially. Spring time usually 2-4 days, summer up to 5 days, fall 7-10 days, and winter up to 18-21 days....no bs haha. I can talk all day about the boats out of San Diego but I have experience on the ones mentioned above usually on the boat for a week or so. Haven't done the charter thing before. But saying that I would say to call Fishermans Landing or Point Loma Sportfishing. The guys there will steer you towards your best route. Any other questions you have let me know Ill try to help.

Can you tell me about the general differences in their fishing and ours? Are the fishing grounds so far off that over-nighters are the only way to get on good fish? From what I've seen sport fisher trolling type deals aren't very prevalent, but when I was out there in March I saw a TON of boats that looked like they were equipped for just this on the Bay side of Silver Strand beach. I didn't get the chance to speak with anyone at that time though . How about the bill fish bite? Do they get the Sails and Marlins with in normal sport fisher range or is the water temp too cool for them? Any important difference in fishing the larger pond vs our waters you'd like to share would be greatly appreciated.
