Hey toobusy I figured I'd start a thread so other people can see out to versus a pm. Well I'm in the market(unfortunately) for some new spinning reels. I know you like Okuma stuff and its cheaper, so sounds right up my alley. I need an inshore spinning reel it 2. I already have a 2500 Shimano sienna about to be paired on a sea striker rod tor throwing zmans and topwaters. I need somethin for dock fishin and oysters and grass lines/ all purpose inshore reels. I was thinkin 4000 but I heard that people rarely use 4000 reels if they have a 3000 on the boat. So now I'm kinda thinkin a 3000 and a 5000 if that's about right?? Even though I know I'd catch the slot red on the 5 and the 30" on the 3 hahah. What reels do you like the most for this and what lb test braid/mono? Reels would mist likely be paired with ugly sticks or sea strikers. Also need a shark/big fush reel. I'm thinking and 8000 on a 6' xh ugly stick or something. But may use a diawa df1000c my only problem is that it has only 1 bearing and don't want it to break. I also possibly want a baitrunner multi purpose inshore reel if you like them.
THANKS! I know how helpful you'll be..

I'm a huge fan of the Trio. It has crazy strong drag for the size reel. I've caught several reds over 30 and one at 38" on the little Trio 20.

For all purpose do everything, I'd say go with at Trio 30. It holds a couple hundred yards of 20 lb braid, it has 18lbs of max drag, and retrieves around 25" of line per turn of the handle with a 5:1 ratio

If that isn't fast enough jump on the Trio High Speed 6.2:1 ratio with 31" retrieve per turn.

Great reel for 75 bucks

Sounds good. I'll look at it. What do you think about the avenger? And what size reel do you use most on reds, trout, sheep's, drum, whiting, inshore?

The Avenger isn't a bad reel, but it's not a great reel either. It's better suited to freshwater and chasing bass than going for reds.
The 8 lb drag doesn't get me excited.

i'm not sure what the best reel in the $40 category is, but I don't think it's an Avenger

I'd watch the classifieds here instead for some good quality used reels.

Haddrell's has some pretty nice rods this weekend for $29 Look for the bucket full of Tsunami's beside the GoPro display.

I like the Okuma rods. I've been fishing the Okuma Reflexions tournament bass rod in the guide service for 3 years. I had 1 explode on the first fish, replaced in 3 days for $14 shipping. The 7 foot 1 piece medium action has plenty of backbone. the medium light makes a nice trout rod.

The freshwater Aquios is a pretty good rod for $35, but you'd be better off buying the on sale Tsunami from Haddrell's

This year I made a serious upgrade to St Croix rods.

Not trying to steal your thread but, I picked up a couple of Avenger 30's online for $18. I have been pretty happy with them considering what I paid. One of them I have been using for over a year now and it still looks like new. I'll have to checkout the Trios.

Not stealing at all! I was thinkin of getting the avenger 30 and exporia or something like that 5000. Just wasn't sure hoe the avengers worked out! My only problem gettin a 30 is I have a Shimano 2500 for trout and artificials and want something to d9ck fish and throw Carolina rigs.. what do you use yours for? What size reds do you normally catch? I alerted what somethin for sheepshead 2 and don't know if a 30 has enough power to immediately turn a 5lb sheep?

I havent had any problems with the avenger either......i have landed a 40" red on it fish in 25' of water near the ravenel bridge as well as a couple over 30" with no problems but i would recommend the trios over the avenger
