Is there any other islands like capers that you can camp on??? Im not worried about the distance from IOP to Capers ....the wife would like something closer.....we are thinking about going on a camping trip but worried about my son having to paddle that far.....dont want to have to tow him!!! So if anybody knows of a secluded island that we can camp on with a good area to leave the vehicle and a shorter paddling distance that would be great!!

You could also try Otter Island. I think it's a couple of miles paddle from the end of edisto in mostly shallow waters. Morris is a good idea too and probably even easier.

Would camping on Morris Island require a permit like Capers Island requires??? Where is a safe place to park my SUV and kayak trailer while camping at Morris Island?? Just dont want to come back after camping on the island only to find out my vehicle is gone, vandalized, or broke into.

The shorter the distance to an island the better as i would have my wife and son with me.....distance isnt a problem for me but my wife and son it would be.

Folly landing is safe. I know a camping island closer to folly landing than Morris.

Nevermind. I'm talking about an island in tobys creek. Its where we camp and has a "campsite". If you want ocean then Morris probably. Altough that is a bit of a paddle

I have put a yak on wheels and rolled it down the old Coast Guard road at the east end of Folly. It's a hump to get it over the soft sand at the end but do-able. Then it's a very short paddle to Morris. Those waters can also be tricky but if you time it at slack tide, it's not bad. Also at low tide, you can walk/roll that yak/canoe up the shoreline a little and get away from the rougher waters closer to the ocean before you paddle over. I've done it in a 15' canoe with 3 people before. It's pretty easy.

Note that Morris is now owned by the city of chas (I think) and I'm not sure what rules if any are being applied to camping out there.

No camping on harbor side. Lady at Dnr said that I'd the Dnr saw you camping on the inlet side they wouldn't say anything
