..to post on ESPN?
I am not bashing Clemson here, more a ESPN reporter who felt that non-issue News was worth writing about.
http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/7970495/clemson-tigers-open-offers-leave-acc-board-chairman-says
some quotes from the article (and my snide comments)
"Clemson does not have a viable offer to leave the Atlantic Coast Conference" ok, so what? Neither do alot of teams.
"We've not had any contact from any league," again, so what?
"Wilkins said Clemson was not working on any proposal to join another conference, according to the report." This is news worthy?

if you read between the lines I think its newsworthy.
Most of the time you get the typical "we are committed to the ACC and not exploring other options" shtick just like he said last year when rumors were flying about CU to the SEC.
But now he is coming out saying they are open to other options....what if you told your wife that? LOL. its a clear sign we are not happy with the new ACC contract specifically because it favors the basketball schools. Seems like our admin, along with FSU, VT and GT are all fed up with the tobacco road bias. Based what our AD said moving to a 9 game conference schedule was the straw that broke the camels back. the football schools didn't want that to happen but their voices were not heard.
The word coming from the most connected inside sources is that our boosters have been talking with the Big 12, sharing financials & revenue projections etc.
If this is going down they would never admit it anyway....smells just like TAMU and Missouri last year. They denied everything until, bam, the announcement came out.
If we admitted to talking to other conferences before formally telling the ACC we were leaving we would get penalized. Nobody from the Big 12 would say talks were happening either because they don't want the ACC blood on their hands.
I have no idea what's really going on, but yes its interesting he did not have the usual "we are committed to the ACC" response.

It means that Clemson, FSU, GT, Miami and VT will be leaving the ACC given the chance to do so. The ACC is a dead league unless you like basketball, if you do, its going to be a beast soon.
I heard that Swofford had the opportunity to take schools like OSU, OK, and TTech from the Big 12 last year and declined in order to take Syracuse and Pitt. That's a pretty sound statement as to where you committments lie.

Looks like shevlin is spot on here.
Even if salty is wrong, that is the perception and we all know what perception means.
So, if I was a betting man, I wouldn't bet against salty here either. |
