I used to see a good many coming out of Charleston, but haven't seen any in a long time.

Just curious, what are you going to use them for? Might be able to find some old beer kegs... or would that be too small?

I intend to build a smoker with them. Kegs could work, but they are a bit smaller than I am looking for. However, if you do have some old beer kegs I would consider buying them from you for other uses.

Five years ago, when I lived in Athens, there was a guy up there who sold drums and he had a handful of stainless drums. Only wanted $55 each. Didn't need them then and now he is no longer in operation. I should have jumped on those when I had the chance...

I found a pretty clean steel drum on craigslist for $20 bucks, with a removable lid. I have since converted it to an Ugly Drum Smoker (can google it for more info). It was pretty easy and cheap to do.

The charcoal ring is expanded metal bolted around a charcoal grate. I can load it up with more charcoal than I would ever need. I did a 12 hour smoke of a boston butt. Kept the temp around 230-240 with very, very little adjustments, and hardly used any charcoal. When the cook is done, you can close the vents off and keep the coals for next time.

If you have any questions, just let me know.

Thanks for the info Xman. I plan on doing a horizontal smoker with an external smoke box. I am dead set on using a stainless drum for ease of maintenance, longevity and aesthetics.

I would trade the two stainless PDQs for a 10 gauge or heavier steel cooker any day.stainless sucks for holding good heat.

Capt Ed, I will buy that barrel from you if Duckcommander doesn't want it. That's exactly what I have been looking for.
