I have heard mention of the NMFS shutting down the season again once a "quota" has been reached. My question is this...how do they know when the "quota" has been reached? Do they monitor websites such as this and when they see a report of "limiting out" and/or see a picture of a wheel barrow loaded down with knotty heads they actually count that in said quota? If that is the case then today when all the boats come back in and post up reports it is actually hurting us in that it will close down the season just that much more quickly???...that doesn't seem right/fair to me. Or do I have this all wrong?

reports here have nothing to do with anything

neither do the limited surveys they actually do

If they cared about actual data, they wouldn't have thrown out all the objective data the NC DNR had on C bass catches in the last 10 years. Throw out data that doesn't serve the ideological and political purposes of the special interests that have been funding and pressuring the biased academic mindset mindless set and pseudo-legislative-without-accountability SAFMC.

What's driving the train is the goal of forcing catch shares, vessel monitoring, MPA's, and other nightmares onto a scientifically healthy, economically sick and politically corrupt fishery.

Stop posting fish, and the non-fishing public who reads this site from time to time actually begins to think that the closures are needed since there aren't any fish showing up on the board or at the docks.

Ask 90% of the readers of this site if the red snapper are in good or bad shape offshore right now. Nobody knows. Nobody cares.

Why is that?

What if you ask them about the health of the mahidolphin off our coast?

Why is that?

The general public is who we need to be concerned with. Not people who lie, cheat and do whatever they can to stop us from fishing NO MATTER THE HEALTH OF THE FISHERIES. Their minds are made up. All the evidence is right in front of them to prove to themselves they are wrong. They refuse to acknowledge it. And they don't have to. They get to tell the court what they considered "best available" science. They are the experts. Anyone wishing to challege them professionally is cast out and pushed out of the profession. Think about where all the funding for academia in the fisheries management field comes from. The ones who try to be ethical and thourough are viewed as broken spokes in the wheel and kicked out of the club. 75% of the ones in the club know the truth and will tell you so in person. They won't do anything about it though because they'll lose their job if they don't do what the $$$ or the politicos in DC want them to do.

I would post pics of huge c bass and how it took 2 drops of bait not even to the bottom to catch your limit. I would not post pics of wheel barrows full.....

To each his own.

Many people have failed to mention or haven't heard of the spy drones. Within 10 years the govt plans to have 30,000 drones in operation monitoring the border of the U.S. at all times. They are already using drones in florida to bust boats fishing illegally. In st aug they seized a big CC these guys were fishing on and kept illegal grouper. The DNR was watching through video footage from the drone 2,000 ft up of that one boat all day. How in the f$$$ do they have money to operate a drone and run a 40ft CC govt boat out to stop 3 guys keeping illegal grouper.??!! They are gonna be using those drones to monitor and enforce the ocean and the borders. I definitely don't plan on living in this country much longer past all that craziness going into full effect.

We had a small drone circle us in Port Royal a few weeks ago. I assumed it was military from PI, but now I wonder?

Charles, please forward me info on the drones.

Whose budget?

Who authorizes?

NMFS Enforcement or is it jointly with another agency such as Homeland Security?

Jim DeMint will be taking over the subcommittee most of this stuff goes through if the R's take the Senate back this November.

Listened to an interview on NPR back in March about drones and there non-military uses. Very interesting but also eerie.

Take a listen: http://www.npr.org/2012/03/12/148293470/drones-over-america-what-can-they-see
