| Anybody know what it may cost to have a 24' center console towed from Tampa, FL to Charleston? Or have any recommendations for who could do it? |

| It's an old proline flatback and is on a dual axle trailer, not a heavy boat, I'm having it rebuilt and it's almost done, just not sure when I'll be able to make it back down to get it so was considering hiring someone to bring it up |

| Probably less than $500. Many times transport companies are looking for something to haul back after they've dropped off their orignal load. You can also look online at a used boat site and find haulers there. |

Talked to a friend of mine that does this for a living (boat transport).
His rate is 2.50/mile loaded. The ride down is part of the fee. Using google maps, you are looking at 437 miles from tampa to charleston. That would be in the neighborhood of $1100.
If you can find someone to do it for 500, that would be a bargain. Figure hauling a 24 foot boat behind a truck would get about 14MPG on a good day, maybe 20MPG on the drive down. That would require about 21.85 GAL on the drive down and 31.21 GAL on the drive back (assuming you are going from the center of tampa and the center of charleston with no side trips).
That is 53 GAL of diesel at 3.65/GAL $192 in gas (at today's prices, unleaded would be less).
That gives the driver $308 in profit for approximately 17 hours of his time (figure 1 hour on each end to load/unload). That equates to $18.11/hour, and for a (**() long day of driving. If he stayed the night at a hotel for 80 bucks and slept for 8 hours, you are looking at $228 of profit for now 25 hours of time, paying him $9.12/hour...a little over what chick fil a pays their cashiers. My guess is that no one will do it for 500...but if you can find that guy, hire him! Oh, and be sure they have insurance and a clean driving record. |
