Good to know, my son just turned 16 and I did not want to get one now if it expired June 30. Dang I wish they would just go from the date issued.

Renewed mine online yesterday when I saw this, when you pay you get a page online you can print for your license. Now I wont have to worry about loosing/ruining my license, can print as many as I need. :)

does anyone know why they don't do as d freedom and i wish and just make it valid for a year(or 3) from the purchase date. i.e. buy it on oct 5 it expires on oct 5. get one on dec 9, guess what expires dec 9 the following year.

When the legislation was passed offering the 3 year license, I thought that was part of it but I haven't seen anymore about it.

Most government entities work off of fiscal year(July 1st to June 30th). They need to track available funds for the next Budget, every dollar they spend is reported to the public, it is just hard to find. For example the License you are buying this year will go into the 2012-2013 year funds, then the 2013-2014 year Budget will be based off of the collected funds in the account. Private companies don't have to report to all of their customers where their money is spent, Governments do. It would be a nightmare to have a running total and not budget everything a government spends, if you think government spending is high now, imagine if they did not have to control what they spent. If a Tackle shop, for example, goes out of business because they spend more than they made, it is not a big deal to you. But if the government runs out of money, we are all ****ed!

Food for thought as we renew our licenses.

LICENSE- A permission, revocable, to commit some act that would otherwise be unlawful

PRIVILEGE- A special legal right, exemption, or immunity granted to a person or class of persons; an exception to a duty. A privilege grants someone the legal freedom to do or not to do a given act. It immunizes conduct that, under ordinary circumstances, would subject the actor to liability.

RIGHT- Something that is due to a person by just claim, legal guarantee, or moral principle "the right of liberty".
