Went out fishing with a friend from the club. I had never tried flats fishing and he had some experience. Pulled up just this side of high tide and saw our first tail. How COOL!

Watched, saw a bit of movement, followed by a reds back, cast, a couple mud poofs, and wham, about a 27" red. It was cool how he bit. All business. Just moving along, eating everything in site. Just happened upon my offering! Not a jack like you usually get.

My bud hopped out the boat when he saw one in the grass beyond our reach. He tried to entice him for about 45 minutes, but he was too busy gulping the fiddlers.

Neat experience and VERY addicting. I can't wait to give it another go!

That looks like your new Carolina Skiff. How shallow did you go and did you pole or use a trolling motor? Good job on your first skinny water red, bro!

RFFS we were probably 18" at the shallowest. We trolled in. I haven't got a pole yet but I'm sure we can get skinnier. My first attempt. Baby steps! LOL! 3peat step one tonight for SC, right!

DF, give me a shout about next weekend. You're due for a Friday off, aren't ya!

Very nice. There is something addicting about the skinny water; that's what got me in the kayak. Absolutely nothing like it.

Looks like Carolina loves to play elimination games! I have the CS 218 DLV and have not been in less than two foot water. I got out to cool off in the water for a swim and was amazed how litte water the boat drafts. Like you said, baby steps. Boat is wired for TM but I am thinking a power pole at this time. We caught three nice slot reds on Saturday near Bennet's Point in an all day trip with several stops. Beautiful weather and nice conditions except for the easterly wind. Made for interesting ride home with the out-going tide.

vin, you're doomed. you'll wish you'd never tried this. you'll find yourself gazing at the tide charts looking for the next series of floods. planning work and life around those floods. looking out the window at work "I wonder if this east wind will push this 5.1 high enough to flood my flat." don't say i didn't warn you, walk away now before its too late. and never ever go gigging in that boat.

Hurricane, that is coming eventually.

Pod, leaving that creek I swear every creek mouth I was craning my neck wondering what it led up to! Google Earth is my new home page! Was amazing to "hunt" fish.

Kids are out of town this week, but I guarantee they will be on my arse until I get them up there. I CAN NOT wait to take them!

R4S, glad you love the boat and there is always next year! You can't win them all (just 2 straight and a 3rd trip to the finals).

Also, something to consider on power pole vs. TM. You can only power pole in 6' or less water. You can TM anywhere. I'm fortunate to have both (i-Pilot w/spot lock, mind you) and I use the trolling motor 10x as much. Maybe TM & cajun anchor? Just my thoughts.
