| My fishing trips have really dwindelled since my Mom has gotten so sick with MS. However, Sunday morning, I was able to get out for a few hours to hit the first part of the incoming tide. I had my good friend Andre Grady and his wife aboard. The had been wanting to go for a while, but neither of our shedules would line up until Sunday. We splashed the boat at 5:30 and hit my honey hole. We found some really good bait right off the get go. For some reason, this season, the redfish like the 4-6" finger mullet a lot more than the small fingers. We had about 4 dozen when the tide turned and the bite started. First fish on was a beast of a red. We got him boatside, and he made one last run straight to the oyster bar and cut Andre off. Next fish was a little 9" rat red. It's really good to see more and more of those smaller fish now. I think that shows how the numbers are increasing up our way again. After that, we boated a nice fish that measured in at 24". Next was a little flounder that bit a finger mullet that was almost bigger than his mouth. That flounder couldn't have been more than 8", but he bit like a big one. LOL! Next one of the rods on the poling platform went off. Andre fought it for about 5 minutes before it ran straight into the prop and cut itself off. The last fish of the day was another little flounder. So, no meat for the table at the Grady house, but they had a nice morning on the water. I was home by 10. | Nice report, sounds like a good morning on the water. I was on google earth today trying to find a launch point to get to dunn sound in my kayak. Got my brother-in-law coming to town this weekend and would like to get him out there and put him on some fish. He always gets me into some trout on the fly in WV, so i figure its the least i can do. |

| You know, I was thinking about that, and the closest place I can think of to launch would be at Calabash beside Capt John's restaurant. I think there's a $3 honor system in place to launch a boat. It would be a little bit of a paddle, but it definitely wouldn't be as far as trying to launch from under the bridge. The only other option would be if you knew someone that stayed in Windjammer Village. By the way, you have to have a NC license if you launch over the state line. It's only $30 per year for SC residents. Hope y'all tear em up. |

Gooze, your statement about the NC license got me thinking. If I launch out of Little River under the bridge and end up fishing a creek in NC. Do I need a NC license if they stop me while in NC for a check?

| You would need a NC licsence if you go into NC.Kayaks should be able to launch in Cherry Grove and take the creek to the left just before you get to the ocean.This will take you through the backwaters and you would end up across from the Calabash river(this is the area we call Tillmans)Should be plenty of good fishing all through that area. |

| Thanks for the info. I saw that landing in Calabash on google earth and it was the best launch spot I could figure as well. Quick scoot across the ICW and I am on some fish. Where is this backwater you are talking about? I usually launch from cherry grove on 53rd ave and i hear you can get through the land bridge to waites island on a high tide but them i am stuck in Dunn sound until the tide comes back in. I was recently told there is a deep hole producing at the base of the swing bridge so may try that. I will def get a NC liscense before heading up that way< i was aware of this so no big deal as long as i am catching fish. |
