Go run out to the end of Ft. Johnson rd. and see those fine people. They have always been helpful to me.

Also, are you sure you need it? I would want clarification on this to be certain, but.. (from DNR site)

Ok I'm planning on headin down that way. My dad's always handled that so I'm not sure how much money it is? Also I'm just not really sure if I need it. I would assume so because they just wanna know I'm out there? I would be shrimping mainly with my fishin buddy who is my age, and takin my little brother out for a couplee net throws with his 4 footer. I guess ill just go see em and see. Any idea how much? I guess ill just use 1" 10' PVC poles with reflective tape as shrimp poles?

I doubt they considered the age thing when they wrote all the shrimping regs, but the way it's written you have to display the tags on your poles, and tags come with your shrimping license, so... I would say that's definitely a question for the folks at DNR!

I made my own poles out of 10 ft, 3/4" PVC with 10 ft, 1/2" EMT (the metal wiring conduit) driven in halfway and glued/screwed in. Not super light, but only cost about $50 at Lowes to put together a set of ten, and are a lot stronger and easier to drive into the mud than the PVC alone. I also added some solid metal tips made out of 1/2" grounding rod cut diagonally into ~6" sections and pressed (with a big hammer) into the end of the EMT, but you don't have to get that fancy, just smash the end shut so it doesn't get packed with mud.

Cool setup wolfie. I was thinking about how is was gonna close em up. Especially because one of my spots is sandy-ish bottom. I think I may use a 3/4 or 1" PVC poles and do a small thin aluminum solid pole coming out the bottom and closing up the rest with like epoxy or something. And I like the tee handle for my pvc, hot glued on it. Definitely go with a white this time haha. Our old ones were grey. Not to easy to spot. Haha.

Yakman72,

If you are going to use that 4 foot net during the season, make real sure the mesh size is 1/2", (one inch when pulled tight) and no smaller. Just a thought.

Thanks baitshrimper. I throw a 7' betts old salt net for my shrimping. That's for my brother. I have to get him one this week, he's wanting to learn how to throw a cast net. A scrawny 8yr old only needs a 4 footer haha.

not trying to split hairs, but that's only the case if you have bait/poles in the boat. you can free cast or take a 3/8" fishing as long as it's obvious there's no bait involved.
