| I just read in the Edisto News that the pier is coming soon. It will be between 1200 and 1500 feet. That's longer then the Folly Beach Pier. I think that this will be a good thing for Edisto. |

| Edistobrad the article in the Edisto News Paper isn't exactly correct. The paper didnt ask the new owner of the Pavilion if they could wirte the article or get any facts about it from him. The main concern of the owner is getting the Resturant and Bar open so the Waterfront can move in by May. The new owner wants the pier but nothing is set in stone. If the peir is built it most likely wont start untill late Fall or early Winter. All though the town did approve it the plan for it. |

It probably depends on the definition of "fishing pier". Just head up the coast to Garden City if you want an example of what can go horribly wrong with "fishing piers". |

That would be sooooooooooo opposed by everyone at Edisto. I can't see that happening......at least I pray that doesn't happen.

You are right about money talking.
However, I would hope money wouldn't talk quite so much in that situation. It would likely drive down property values to have a gambling boat there, and it would bring in an element of society that we really don't want or need down at Edisto. It would end up changing the face of Edisto as we know it. YUK.
Overall, I think it would be a losing proposition for everybody....except the gambling boat people, who would make out like bandits.

Last I heard it was supposed to be a Holiday Inn Express where the old car wash is located. Supposedly they are waiting on Charleston County to bring a waterline down Hwy.174. Maybe one will build closer to the beach, say near The Edistonian! Maybe PRT will buid some condos. Highway Dept. might build bridges from Edisto to Hunting Island.
Political Correctness: A doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end!

A bridge over the Sound??? That's about 7 miles across. All the engineering issues aside, I hope they never build a bridge across the Sound. That would simply increase traffic and spoil the quiet atmosphere we love at Edisto.
I hope that I just didn't pick up on your sarcasm or something, and that you were kidding. Or did you actually hear something about a bridge?

Hey anything is possible, as I heard it some of the homeowners were talking about leaving Colleton County for Beaufort County or even Aiken County.

| The Holiday Inn Express was supposed to go on the land surrounding the Old Post Office. Charleston County will rezone anything that makes them more money: so a crappy site that has no marsh or water and a relic carwash BUT has the right zoning won't sell before something along Store Creek. |

It's true that Edisto has been a cash cow for Colleton since it seceded from Chas. but I wonder if things would be any better for property owners back there or in Bft Co? Boykin knows more about this than me, but somhow....I doubt it.
Y'all don't worry about that bridge from Edisto to Hunting Isl.....it is about as likely to happen as Hitlary being our next president. |
