There is a private boat landing under 526 on Virginia Avenue. On the sign out front it says property of NCFC. I assume that is North Charleston Fishing Club. However they are not listed on here under clubs and there are no hits with Google. Does enyone know anything about this club? That landing is right close to my house and would be great to be able to use it. Thanks.

That is probably the North Charleston Facilities Corporation. Basically a part of the city that builds and maintains various facilities and then leases them back to the City for municipal use. Some accounting reason for it. But basically it is a part of the City of North Charleston.

Used to have to be recommended by another club member years ago...don't know if that is the case now or not! Just got my renewal in the mail last week...so now would be a good time to try to get in as membership runs from July to June...may have a couple of folks that have moved or chose not to renew for whatever reason!

Ramp sucks and the lock and key give a great sense of false security, plus the owner/lease holder is a hypocrit (sp?)

Ramp is fine if you are smart enough to know how to use it! Lock and key is not for security of your vehicle...if it was not locked it wouldn't be "private"...it would be public and people would be setting up lawn chairs to spectate! I suppose you would rather use the landing at Sol Legre or maybe Penny Creek, for increased sense of security??

I am bringing this one back from the dead.

How many members here have a key to the ramp? Is there a waiting list to get in the "club?"

I'm giving up my membership this year after 30+yrs. as I do not feel it is a safe place to take my family. I have spoken to Fern and other representatives about a few of my concerns, but they have went ignored. Just be careful for the potholes on the ramp, the drop-off on the end of the ramp, the bog your truck down type muddy road after a good rain and high tide, hummingbird-size mosquitoes, falling apart dock, rotting dock boards, exposed rusty nails, the rusty re-bar landing,no lights, and be careful to take in or out while the tugs are passing by as they will swamp you or bottom your boat out. That being said, I've tolerated it for all these years because it gave you great, uncrowded access to the Cooper River for shrimping and fishing. Not to mention, there has never, ever been a DNR official there to check you, never. I hope you get my old membership and enjoy it as much as I have over the years.

No crowds and ding-dongs = worth every penny IMO, despite all its drawbacks, but you get what you pay for right? Last year there was a big DNR bust there. I came out and they pulled over the guy ahead of me. DNR said they had written 43 tickets. Good for them. I hate a poacher.

I've been a member for about 15 years or so. Sure it's not perfect but we don't have to park on the road and walk back to our boats like most places around here, always plenty of parking close to the ramp. Never had any problems loading my boat, even though it does have lots of potholes.Ton more than one pair of pants on the dock, and do have to use caution. It,s location is close to my house and is really convenient.
Worth the problems. The boat ramp next door goes dry at low tide, the last time I checked unless the city has improved it and nowhere to park.

I've personally launched and loaded a 22' center console and now my 21' Tidewater bay boat, but I can't do it on anything less than a 1' tide or my trailer will be off the end of the ramp. I have seen a guy launch a >24' twin-engine Hydra-Sports there with about a 1' tide.

Thanks for the feedback. I have launched at the public ramp under the bridge at dead low tide. I have an 18' flats boat. Anything is better than that place.

Birddawg, I have a 21'6" bay boat that I launched there. And, the landing isn't that bad really, especially for "fishing". I'm just frustrated that the fees couldn't be raised to generate the funds to properly fix a few things that could prevent members from damaging their equipment, but more importantly, keeping everyone safe from bodily harm. Alright, I'm finished.

For the money VERY much worth it. A dead low or negative low there is a dip on one side (not a drop off, but a dip). Can make it a bit of a challenge with a low tide wet ramp but it only burned me once on the "super moon".
I thankfully have had no security problems and if you respect the rules, Fern will respect you. No fires (duh, but its happened), no smoking, no parties, and the sticker goes on your trailer, NOT your vehicle, so if you meet a NCFC member to fish their boat, you have to park elsewhere and meet them. I think in 15-20 launches I've waited once.
Hess owns the ramp but allows the Rabon family to continue leasing it as long as their members follow the rules. Not much to ask and I'm thankful given Bushy Parks swamp status.

It is about 20 minutes closer to summerville than remleys and private. How can you go wrong?

My father is the one who usually welds the new lock on there every year or so... Used to have a membership, but didn't much care for the continuous rise in price... Even after getting it on the house for the welding, we don't use it much anymore save for shrimping season maybe once...

I'd say it's worth the money though. It's either "false" security or no security... Plus that old dock makes for a very interesting climb down and up on low tide hahah :)

I don't know what you are taking about. I have been a member for 6 yrs and the price has remained the same $50. I have never had a security problem. The ramp sucks but you get what you pay for and no crowd makes it worth every penny
