Recipe of the Week |
Angel Hair Pasta Shrimp
and Broccoli
Ingredients:
8 1/4-inch medium shrimp
3 large garlic cloves
1/2 tsp. salt and pepper
6 tablespoons olive oil
6 tablespoons butter
1 bunch of broccoli cut up
8 oz. angel hair
Directions:
Marinade: Toss together: Shrimp, garlic, salt and
pepper, 4 tablespoons olive oil and marinate the
shrimp for 3 hours in the refrigerator. After
marinating, remove the garlic pieces. Add 3
tablespoons butter.
Pasta:
In a large saucepan, add broccoli and bring to a
boil. Drain and return to saucepan; cover.
Note: Do not overcook. Broccoli will continue to
cook after removed from heat. It should be a bright
green color - emerald green, not olive green. Olive
green indicates the broccoli has overcooked.
Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil and butter. Add shrimp
and sauté, tossing often.
Cook pasta. Drain and toss everything together.
Serve. |

Expired!
If you are like me you are starting to get a little bit of
cabin fever. Between the wind, the cold, and the rain it has been a
little tough to get on the water over the last several weeks. Sure
there has been some nice days mixed in, but none of them have fallen
on the weekend to speak of and it is tough to judge a good day
amongst the bad to schedule a day off of work. Regardless to help
ward off the cabin fever I like to concentrate my time on fishing
related activities this time of year even though I may not actually
be on the water actively fishing. In another eight weeks or so many
of us will find ourselves 50-miles east of the lowcountry in search
of the ever elusive yellowfin tuna; therefore, there is no better
time than the present to a take an hour or so and go thought your
safety gear and make sure everything is up to par. A solid safety
inspection may save you from having to turn around and come home in
the case of a minor incident, it may save you from having to pay a
big ticket, or it may even save your life!

Recreational Anglers
Gather for 2nd Annual State Convention
Columbia, S.C. – Recreational saltwater angling
enthusiasts will be gathering once again in 2010 as part of the
Coastal Conservation Association South Carolina’s 2nd Annual State
Convention. The resource first, science based, recreational angler
advocate group will be welcoming participants to this two day event
on Friday & Saturday February 19-20 at the Omar Shrine Temple
located in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Last years event drew attendance by
anglers and conservationist from all over South Carolina, the
region, and the country in a full blown celebration of recreational
angling and South Carolina’s coastal sporting heritage. Organizers’
of this year’s event see another exciting weekend taking place.
“Given the remarkable growth of CCA SC over the last
ten years and the resource successes that the organization’s
volunteers and members have been a part of, the feeling was that an
event to bring everyone together at one place and time would have
tremendous appeal to our volunteers, members, and the recreational
community in South Carolina” said CCA SC State Chairman and
convention Co-Chairman Michael Smith. “By the end of the weekend
last year, it was evident that notion was correct and that this
indeed would become another great opportunity for anglers to come
together and celebrate our state’s marine resources and our sport on
an annual basis”.
Friday night will once again see the “CCA SC Block
Party” at which local chapter cooking teams from South Carolina’s 12
chapters will compete for state bragging rights as the best cooking
team. Along with live entertainment and fellowship, this portion of
the event is all about a great time with friends and camaraderie.
Last year’s winner from the Aiken chapter have enjoyed reminding
everyone of their victory and have laid down the challenge to the
other chapters to bring their A-game.
Saturday’s line up includes an opportunity for anglers
to interact with CCA’s state and national advocacy team during a
short meeting discussing issues facing recreational anglers and how
CCA is active in these issues. That evening the community will once
again gather at a one of kind “Celebrating Conservation” banquet. In
keeping with the CCA SC reputation, there will be great food and
fellowship along with a live auction like no other CCA SC has
experienced before. The amazing items will be offered only one time
and will consist of trips and merchandise from around the CCA
nation.
“I knew I was going to enjoy some great food when I was
invited by CCA South Carolina to attend simply based on my previous
trips to South Carolina as the state has a powerful reputation for
its food” said Matt Paxton, CCA National Lobbyist. “As it turned out
I was right but the most impressive aspect of the entire event for
me was the tremendous fellowship and commitment to not just enjoying
but improving the sport and the resource those in attendance shared.
It really was a celebration and I have looked forward to my return
visit since I left.”
Ticket and accommodation information along with any
additional questions or comments can be found by either calling the
state office (803) 865-4164 or visiting the state chapter website at

The Final Word |
A day of
rain, a day of wind, a day of cold. Ideal fishing days seems
to be a little tough to come by here recently unless you are
prepared for one of the above or all three. We have had a
few days mixed in that were fishable and those that have
gone are finding some nice Reds on the flats. There are also
some great reports on Sheepshead at the reefs, a few nice
Stripers up the Wando and Cooper and the big Shad run is
just beginning.
Offshore the big talk is about the spectacular reports of
Wahoo. The fish are being caught on both planners and on the
surface. Check out the site for some great photos of these
silver brutes.
Tight
lines…
