Some of those that are die hard have hit the offshore waters all year long, others have just hit it over the last several weeks for the first time this year, regardless; the Yellowfin are starting to show up offshore and over the next several weeks many of us will find ourselves 40 plus miles east of the lowcountry trying to get in the bite. There is no better time than the present to a take an hour or so and go thought your safety gear and make sure everything is up to par. A solid safety inspection may save you from having to turn around and come home in the case of a minor incident, it may save you from having to pay a big ticket, or it may even save your life!

Goose Creek Youth Fishing Event May 5
The S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will be hosting a youth fishing event Saturday, May 5th at the Goose Creek Municipal Complex pond from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All area youth 16 years and younger are invited to participate.
Accompanied by an adult, all youth can enjoy a day of fishing for catfish. Bait and a stringer for the fish will be provided, and kids are asked to bring their own fishing rod and reel. A fish cleaning demonstration will be on-site, teaching kids the proper techniques to clean their own fish. In addition to the fishing activities, kids can learn how to be an SC Reel Kid and see what archery in the schools is all about. Many other educational exhibits will be on site. Refreshments will be provided, and kids will be awarded prizes through random drawings. DNR event coordinators ask that you leave coolers and pets at home.
Come out at 9 a.m. and take advantage of the beautiful weather and experience a free and fun day of fishing. The Goose Creek Municipal Complex is located at 519 North Goose Creek Boulevard. For additional information on the youth fishing event, call (843) 825-3387.
Over 300 area youth participated in the 2006 youth fishing event. Youth anglers caught species including catfish, shellcrackers, bluegill, largemouth bass and eel. The event is one in a series of youth fishing events statewide that promote hunting and fishing to area youth.

Goose Creek fishing event sponsors include the Berkeley County Legislative Delegation, City of Goose Creek and the Harry Hampton Memorial Wildlife Fund.
After tropical storm force winds last weekend weather seems to be coming around for this weekend, just in time for the SCSSA Early Bird Tournament. Inshore action has been good this week for trout and reds. The trout are hitting DOA shrimp and topwater. With the assistance of a little wind and some big spring tides the reds have been in the grass during early morning and early evening this week. Fish are hitting anything that resembles a crab as well as weedless spoons. Sheepshead action remains good in and around Charleston Harbor as well as on the nearshore reefs.
Offshore action is turning on big time. Multiple reports of Blue Marlin showing up already, some huge Wahoo taken over the last several weeks, scattered Dolphin and oh yea did I mention the Yellowfin. If you want an offshore report, check out CharlestonFishing.Com - offshore reports - 4-14-07 Training Camp by the Nature Boy on the site! Bottom fishing remains good for large black sea bass, snapper and grouper.
