Recipe of the Week |
Ginger Glazed Dolphin
Ingredients:
3 tablespoons honey
3 tablespoons soy sauce
3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger root
2 cloves garlic, crushed
2 teaspoons olive oil
4 (6 ounce) dolphin fillets
¼ Teaspoon Salt
1/8 Teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Directions:
1. In a shallow glass dish, stir together the
honey, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, ginger, garlic
and olive oil. Season fish fillets with salt and
pepper, and place them into the dish and refrigerate
for 20 minutes to marinate.
2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over
medium-high heat. Remove fish from the dish, and
reserve marinade. Fry fish for 4 to 6 minutes on
each side, turning only once, until fish flakes
easily with a fork. Remove fillets to a serving
platter and keep warm.
Pour reserved marinade into the skillet, and heat
over medium heat until the mixture reduces to a
glaze consistently. Spoon glaze over fish, and serve
immediately |

Recreational Fishing Rights
I received this email this week and many of you have
received it as well. I decided we needed to get it out onto the
newsletter for those of you that may not be aware of what is going
on. People who would like to outlaw fishing are a very well
organized group with lots of money and lobbyist working on their
behalf. Laws that greatly effect recreational fishing are changing
at light speed with little or no input from anglers. Some of it is
due to an apathetic approach by anglers, but much of it is being
done without anglers being aware until it is too late. Don’t wait
until it is too late. Get educated on laws that are being proposed.
Here is a copy of the latest email. You can also go to

The Harry Hampton Hunting & Fishing Expo is coming back
to Spartanburg and Upstate South Carolina. The hunting, fishing and
outdoors exposition will be held Aug. 21-23 at the Spartanburg Expo
Center, 6655 Pottery Road, Spartanburg (Interstate 26, Exit 17).
The Hunting & Fishing Expo will be open from 1-8 p.m.
Friday, Aug. 21; from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 5
p.m. Sunday. The show’s theme will again be “Something for
everyone…including the kids!”
Admission to the Expo is $6, and parking is free. Kids 7-12 get in
for $4; children under 7 are admitted free. For more information on

Frank Addington Jr., also known as the Aspirin Buster,
is bringing his 2009 "Have Bow Will Travel" archery show. In his 25
year stage career, Addington has appeared coast to coast with his
fast-paced, unique brand of "bow and arrow razzle dazzle!" The Expo
will also feature Sammy Schrimsher’s famous whitetail exhibit,
hunting, fishing and outdoors seminars and fun for the entire
family.
Show booths will be stocked with the latest in hunting,
fishing and outdoor equipment, plus boats, ATVs and more for show
and sale. Also, the S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will
be on hand with a number of exhibits and demonstrations. DNR will
feature its “Take One-Make One” mobile educational trailer with BB
shooting ranges, virtual reality shooting and more, plus the agency
will have a virtual fishing simulator set up for the thrill of
catching not only freshwater species, but offshore big game fish as
well. Up from the coast will be DNR’s Marine Resources Division, a
real hit with children who rarely get to visit the ocean.
The Harry Hampton Hunting & Fishing Expo is sponsored
by the Harry Hampton Memorial Wildlife Fund. The Hampton Fund is a
private, non-profit corporation governed by a volunteer board of
directors from across South Carolina that partners with DNR to
benefit conservation of wildlife, marine and other natural resources
in South Carolina. Funds are obtained solely through private
donations, special promotional projects and fund-raising events. The
Hampton Fund uses proceeds to fund natural resources conservation
projects in South Carolina. Examples include programs such as Hooked
on Fishing, Not on Drugs; Operation Game Thief; Project WILD, Camp
Wildwood and the Jocassee Gorges Visitor Center.
Dolphin Tagging Program
Marine Anglers:
Talk about stepping off a cliff. Tagging activity went
from more than 500 fish tagged in June to 25 fish reported tagged in
July. What Happened? Did the fish vanish or did anglers quit
fishing? The winds did pickup a little but not enough to cause this
drop in tagging.
I would like to receive feed back from you, the
fishermen. Did you make as many blue water trips in July as in the
past two years? How was the dolphin fishing? Did bad weather keep
you off the water more than normal?
This newsletter reports on a recent study out of
Florida examining how healthy dolphinfish are as food when it comes
to mercury contamination. It also contains a report on a recent tag
recovery that could cast a shadow on a theory about the movement of
dolphin from southeast Florida. It also shows why it is important to
complete the data records for each fish tagged.
Good fishing, Don

The Final Word |
Fishing
this last week was strong. The wind laid down nicely
allowing many boats to get out and test the offshore waters.
The dolphin are being caught again in good numbers. There
are a lot of wahoo caught with some big ones over 50lbs. The
Sailfish bite has been steady and should continue to get
better in the next month or so. The bottom fishing bite has
been really strong with some really nice catches of red
snapper and grouper. Closer to shore the king mackerel bite
has been really good around the shipping channel and over
areas of live bottom. The sheepshead bite is wide open
around the jetties and around just about any dock or pilings
you can find. Inshore the redfish are starting to get really
active along the flats and are feeding on a variety of live
baits and artificials. The trout fishing is really good as
well. Both species are hitting top-water baits early in the
am and before dark. Zara Spook Jr.’s and the Mirro-Lure
top-dogs are doing well. Flounder fishing is good on a live
mudminnow or a spinner bait. Fishing in the surf is picking
up with some nice catches of trout, reds, and plenty of
bonnethead sharks. There are also some really good catches
of tarpon being caught around the inlets. Have a safe and
fun weekend.
Tight
lines…
