Crabbing with Daddy

Friday morning I was able to go “home” to see my mom and spend a day crabbing with my Daddy. Momma and Daddy were both “up and about” when I got there a little before 0600…and while daddy didnt even try to hide his happiness of seeing the bag of hardees biscuits I had picked up on my way there…mom said…“you shouldnt have”…but I knew she too was happy for this treat:smiley:…a crabbing day tradition of sorts when I come down.
Six oclock we were pushing off from the dock, leaving behind only two other trucks in the parking lot…water was slick calm and a warm heaviness to the day that promised it was going to be another hot one…and that we might get rained on too…but all i cared about was that I was surrounded and comforted by the familiar sights, smells and sounds of being home again.
The clouds were dark in places but tinged with a pink, orange and red where the sun touched them …and I was reminded again how different each day could be in the same place…and didnt care that the rain might catch up with us later in the day’

The water was the color of dark coffee in the waterway and in a few of the creeks that it emptied into…and the pots I pulled were full of dead leaves and twigs and the smell of decay and rotting earth placed there by the many rains and tides.
There were very few crabs…in fact…the first seven only yielded this…and this was before they were measured or “culled”:

Just priceless.Life is great!!

Penny, you and your dad are two of my “favorite people that I’ve never met”. I love these posts.

If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.

Love it, what area are you crabbing?

There are times the only reason I keep coming back to this site is to see what you and your Daddy have been up to…this is just another great reason!!! Hope the motor is an easy fix!!!

Thanks y’all.

Robmiller …my parents live in mcclellanville…so we crab in the muddy bay/cape romain area.

Dadsfr…pretty sure it’s SOMETHNG in the foot. It’s a 50 hp four stroke merc…has .run great otherwise and has been great on gas for him. Foot started making a noise so he took it in to be looked at…but depite the noise they said they couldnt hear or find anything wrong with it…don’t know what’s wrong with it. one things for sure…it’s. it running :(. I think he only has. A couple months warranty left on it…so lets hope it is covered and fixable. . Regardless…he can’t crab for a while. Brother nlaw has a litle boat across the street so He will go empty and leave his pots open until He gets his boat back
