Leaf Guard Gutters?

Anyone have any actual experience with these things? Do they really work? Pine Straw?

Need to know before I proceed on a replacement
Or would I be better off leaving what I got and buying the wife a taller ladder …

The Leaf Guard are high, watched a This Old House and they were using these large brushes, looked like giant bottle washers.

Leaf guard works better for leafy trees, you can get a pine guard if you have mostly pine trees. Both work well and both are pricy.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I had them reinstalled on a tree damage job, I did for a customer a while back. The ones we removed were full of Pin Oak leaves and Acorns. The customer wanted them back on, so I obliged. $28.00/ ft. if I remember correctly? Way overpriced!

PK you could get her a manlift for what they cost!

Thanks guys. I had heard they were high, but that seems excessive particularly if they aren’t 100% effective. How do clean those things?

I like the idea of the manlift. If she hustled, she could power wash the siding at the same time. Clean windows too.

Lowes sells gutter screens that tuck under the shingles on one end and clip on to the gutter on the other end. I used them on my old house under a couple of oak trees and they worked great and were pretty cheap, too. They came in 3’ sections that you overlap.

If you are talking the genuine Leafguard, you’ll need to take out a 2nd mortgage. For starers, despite what they will tell you, if you have a lot of trees around your house, there is no such thing as 100% leaf free. I had gutters put up last fall after getting tired of climbing up a ladder to clean them. Leafguard wanted over $4,000. I got a local company that came highly recommended to do the seamless aluminum with the leaf hood done for around $1,800. So far I am very happy. They’ll clean it out once a year for $100. I tried several DIY screens, etc., nothing worked very well for long.

Fritz doesn’t have these problems. $28 a foot!

I have leaf guard - They’re a real pain when they do get clogged - and they will clog. very difficult to clean out.

That’s what I was looking for thanks
I just couldn’t believe that nothing gets in the gutter
And I can’t see how you could clean them

If I didn’t have a basment I’d do away with the gutters! My roof is 12/12 that’s 45deg. and on a heavy rain the water moves so fast it jumps the gutters but the leaves don’t! Two story salt box.

My Mom has them and they work like a champ. Her souse is surrounded by grand oaks. The only thing that gets in them are the oak flowers, and it’s really not that many of them. I clean hers each spring after the oak flowers have dropped. I just put her garden hose on “jet” and they flow right out. Easy peasy. She’s had them for 10+ years and they still look brand new.
