Spawning trout

I caught a trout earlier this week and when i was dehooking it squirted out eggs. Seemed kind off late in the year. Ive heard trout can spawn as often as 3 weeks and up to 13 times a year. Any truth to it? Also i caught 7 trout and 3 had bite marks. 2 were missing the top front fin and this one with the eggs had some teeth marks? The orange on the bhole is some eggs.

That seems unusual…Barbawang…calling Barbawang… Code Blue

I’d guess that about 20-25% of the trout i’ve seen lately (n~150) has very narrowly escaped predation by cetacean.

more to the point though, this is excerpted from the seminal (see what i did there?) work on SC SST:

“Spawning in the Charleston Harbor area during the study period began in mid to late April as indicated by the presence of oocytes in late FOM or POFs in histological samples. During the study period, mean water temperatures ranged from 16° to 34°C. Highest temperatures were recorded during July and August for all three years of the study. The lowest documented water temperature when spawning began was 20°C. Cessation of spawning occurred when water temperature was 28°C. […] Thus, the spawning season for spotted seatrout in South Carolina extends from late April through early September.” (Roumillat and Brouwer, 2004)

this is our temp profile for the fall, which was an atypically warm one until patterns finally switched pretty dramatically in mid-october

therefore, the last spawning should have occurred around 90 days ago, and we were definitely well past the window 60 days ago. that said, i personally think that if i had crawled out of the jaws of a giant monster and then been dragged to shore and squeezed by another giant monster, i might also produce some interesting things…

My personal theory (which is much less scientific), is that the orange … um … “discharge” is the result of them having shrimp for dinner last night.

As I said, just my theory.

Im absolutely positive it was eggs. I heard 68 degree is the common start and stop point add in 3 weeks plus gestation and its actually reasonable that it was spawning. Around Nov 15 had like 68ish and i caught this fish about the 16th of Dec.

Im at 50 percent cetacean rate on trout over 17in recently.
