Wading for Trout

Big trout are biting! Had a couple of Low Country buddies come do some wade fishing. The stars lined up and the winds died down just enough. All fish were caught on a Vudu Vixen by Egret Baits. Color was white with chartreuse tail.

What a catch! One day the tax man’s gonna chomp your foot wadding through the water with all that bait. Hope not though.

I’ve had many encounters with “the tax man.” Every time, he’s been after my fish and not me. He’s taken fish off my stringer and off the end of my line as I was trying to land the fish. I really believe that fish are his first choice by far. If he gets me, it’ll be by accident. That’s why my stringer is 15’ long. I keep his food as far away from my legs as I can.

I’d love to go do that sometime with you Harold!

Mannnnn somebody’s going to be awful busy cleaning and cooking. That going to have to be a mighty big frying pan…

I was busy…as I cleaned every one of them. We ate fish every day, and I vacuum sealed the rest in meal size portions. We split them up and brought them home to share with family and friends. Folks this far inland don’t get much speckled trout…and they’re very appreciative when they do.

Unreal the number of trout out there. Congrats, Harold, along with the invites you extend out to others.

I do have a question regarding the trolling motor.

I notice that you have the depth collar slid down towards the foot. It also appears the maybe the black plastic collar or whatever it’s called that extends upward from the motor/steering portion is broken somewhat from perhaps coming unlocked while underway with the depth collar at a higher point.

Perhaps my observation is wrong, but mine is broken in the way I mentioned due to having the depth collar up higher and after stowing to move, hit a wave that caused it to unlock slamming the trolling motor down breaking it. Sliding collar down would eliminate that.

Mine still works one it catches but need to get repaired.

Thanks in advance.

NN

NN, my collar is not broken. I just don’t twist it around to get it ALL THE WAY down. Where it is on the shaft will prevent if from launching unintendedly. That happened to me the second week I had that motor. I did not heed their warning and I did NOT slide that collar all the way down to the foot of the trolling motor. I was running about 35 mph when I hit some waves which caused a medium jolt to the boat. That was all it took. My trolling motor bounced up and over. I stopped immediately, but the damage had been done. It shattered the shaft from the motor all the way up to the top. FORTUNATELY, the warranty covered it. One time was all it took for me. Now, WHENEVER I move the boat, I always slide the collar down the shaft to prevent another such accident.

Well done as usual Mr. HogWash! You guys are certainly spoiled out there! Had a friend out there last week for a spottail tournament… they got big fish I heard, haven’t talked to him yet but he has sent a lot of pics; I love it:+1:

…well, some fishing too!

Thanks for the reply. Couldn’t tell for sure from pic, but seems we have had the same experience with different results. Good deal on them taking care of under warranty. Gotta remember to slide collar down while underway.

I don’t understand what’s going on with Edisto Fisher. Why post that link?

Hi Harold,

Mostly I don't explain myself here, nor anywhere else really, but since we have met, I respect you, I know you are a great fisherman, we have fished together a couple times on the hooter, you don't engage in any of the political nonsense that has ruined this website, and to my knowledge you have always given more to this website than you have taken, I will explain my motives to you sir.

Let me start by asking you a question. When you come to engage here at Charleston Fishing do you come directly to the forums section like myself and most long time users, or do you land on the slick mobile homepage that’s all the rage these days in the newer www world? If you aren’t sure what I am talking about here is the link I reference.

You are kind of a big deal there lately in case you didn’t know. Anyway, I’ll await your answer before I continue. I guess you are on central time, so maybe you’ll see this tonight, if not we can take it up tomorrow.

In the meantime, here’s a hint for the rest of the crew in the cheap seats.

Edisto Fisher,
Like you, when I come to this site, I go straight to the Forums. I had never seen that page that popped up when I clicked the link you sent. I know that the site was sold within the past year or so. I spoke to Andy about that at the time. I have always experienced a few hiccups when trying to post photos, etc., but was just thankful for the site. Now that new folks own the site, I’m sure they have their own ideas about how the layout should be. They’ve invested their money and it’s not costing me anything to participate on this site. If they screw it up, it only hurts them financially.
As for the petty politics that I see from time to time on this site, that’s not my thing. I don’t engage in it. On a related note, if I were runni

Hi Harold. Great to see you post again. That looks like fun but my little white legs resemble a trout too much for me to do that!

I bet you cleaned all those fish in under an hour. I only clean trout, now, in the manner in which you showed me in that video you sent me. Thanks again for that.

Hey Harold wouldn’t mind seeing the video Kenny’s talking about. As the old saying goes. There’s always a better way to skin a cat.

This isn’t the video he sent me but it’s the same way with a fillet knife. Pretty impressive when you watch a Cajun Clem about ten trout in a minute.

Hello again Harold,

Sorry it took me so long to reply, but I have worked like a chain gang convict today for darn near the same wages. Because of that I’ll try and keep this short and sweet like a bottle of that fine hogwash, only not as spicy.

The reason I asked about the landing spot when you come to CF is because you, like Off The Chain and many others have stated, had no idea that part of the website existed. I felt like you should be made aware that the posts you put up here in the forums section reach a much wider audience. Just to show how much of a difference just look at the number of hits the “ADMIN-LOOK IN HERE” thread 23Sailfish posted has now. Do you think the 20 or so folks that post here anymore are clicking in those thousands of times?

Not that there is anything at all wrong with that mind you, but here is the rub…for me anyway. I feel like the mule pulling the plow deserves his fair share of the sweet feed at the end of the day. We (but mainly guys like you in particular) put highly sought after content up that is sporting and fishing related. The current admin then copies those pictures and fact filled information you provide, then they transfer it to a slick mobile “money making” section of the website where sponsors pay for “clicks” that the cherry picked information provides. Brilliant really, and like I said there isn’t a single thing wrong with that, but again I feel like those providing the pictures, reports, and content (us mules) should reap at least a smidgeon of the benefits gained by our hard work (some sweet feed at the end of the day if you will).

For the record it’s not a faster forum experience I am shooting for when I posted those links in your reports sections. Its not wanting the ability to post larger pictures, the lack of PM access, nor any of the other ancient idiosyncrasies of this website 23Sailfish and many others complain about. What I want is pretty much is exactly what you want and were talking about in your respons

Dang it Edisto fisher, first time I ever hit the Home button. I now understand what you mean. CFC is fishing for Hits. I wonder if admin realizes that they are putting out false information with this thread? Anyone besides a few would automatically assume Harald’s pics were from the Charleston area rather than Louisiana.
