Isle of Palms Questions

I’ll be coming down to IOP in a few weeks for vacation. Probably going to be fishing early mornings and evenings. I’ve been here a few times and have done pretty well surf fishing. I was happy with the structure of the beach (Wild Dunes section of the beach that is) and how many sandbars, guts, troughs, holes, etc. there were. Coming from Virginia Beach, the structure of the beach is not nearly as good. However, after browsing this site, I have seen that there has been some dredging going on around or near the island. How badly has this affected surf fishing? I’m not necessarily looking to reel in bull red after bull red, but it would be nice to find catch some whiting, blues, and other species while I’m there. Any info provided is greatly appreciated and I will gladly post a report of my week of fishing as well.

When are you going to be at IOP? I’ll be there 8/07 through 8/14, at Sea Cabins. Do pretty well on Black Drum, Sheephead, Whiting, and occasionally, a Bull Red. Lots of fun with Sharks too! Might put an offshore trip together as well. Not sure if I’ll have my boat and gear ready in time, though?

I’ll actually be there during that week! When I was there, I also did pretty well on the whiting and black drum. Also pulled in a large speckled trout as well. Seemed like the beach had some good sandbars and troughs that were close to shore, so I mostly caught my fish only 10-30 yards off the beach. Just hoping the beach structure is somewhat decent to provide some decent action.

Sweet! Shoot me a P.M. if you’re interested in hooking up with me. Nothing would please me more, than to try to bring this site to it’s former Glory! Y’all know. Friendship, Fellowship, Fishing!!

P.S. I’ll almost guarantee you an upper teen, to 20#/+ Bonnethead, if you want to fish off of the pier with us!

Let me know?

Scott
